A generous sampling from around the state...

• Newt Gingrich, who for some reason the media finds still relevant, has discovered the Twitter thing that all "the kids" are using.  On it, he blatantly lied that there has been no oil spills off the coast of Santa Barbara since 1969, and was called on it by Media Matters and Keith Olbermann.  He didn't like that much, so he called upon his pals at the American Enterprise Institute to bail him out.  Needless to say, they lied too.

This conversation between Greg Lucas of California's Capitol and Bill Lockyer is well worth reading.  His main point is that hijackings like Abel Maldonado throwing Constitutional amendments into the budget process are just going to embolden obstructionists in the Yacht Party in the future.

FBI: Package at Radanovich's office looks like hoax

Suspicious packages delivered to a district office of U.S.  Rep. George Radanovich (R-Mariposa) and a handful of media outlets across the country appear to be a hoax, according to the FBI.

The packages, which included a CD with Colin Powell's image on it and a small sugar-packet sized container that was labeled "anthrax sample," don't appear to be an act of terrorism, said Sacramento-based FBI agent Steve Dupre.

TV station reports package with white powder at congressman's office

An envelope containing white powder with a label saying it was anthrax has been sent to U.S. Rep. George Radanovich's (R-Mariposa) Modesto district office, according to a Sacramento TV station.

KCRA.com, the station's Web site, reported that two women who worked in the office were taken to a local hospital after opening the suspicious package this morning, though they had not reported any ill health effects.
