You're probably all blown out of your living rooms from Bobby Jindal's rebuttal to the President's address to Congress, so I'll keep it brief.

• The Daily Beast reports that Arnold Schwarzenegger considered leaving the Republican Party last year, though he never followed through, because he determined that Republicans already hated him as it was and he had nothing to gain from going independent.  And the Treasurer of the "Schwarzenegger for California" Party cried real tears.

• In a major announcement, the national NAACP has called for the overturning of Proposition 8.  Under Benjamin Jealous the NAACP had been planning on getting more involved with human rights and civil liberties, and this is a bold first step.

Strickland claims narrow win in hard-fought SD-19 battle; Jackson concedes defeat

Democrat Hannah-Beth Jackson conceded defeat in SD-19 to Republican Tony Strickland on Wednesday, bringing to an end an often heated, extended battle for the southern Central Coast senate seat.

"We need to definitely do whatever we can to reach across party lines to fix the problems of the state," Strickland, 38, told the Ventura County Star in this story.

Battle for SD-19 down to provisional ballots

Republican Tony Strickland's lead over Democrat Hannah-Beth Jackson in the 19th Senate District has shrunk to 1,328 votes, down from 2,250 votes a week ago.

However, almost all of the mail-in ballots have been counted in the 19th, which spans Ventura, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles counties. Jackson has to make up significant ground with provisional ballots, which can be contested by both campaigns.

Strickland's lead grows in SD-19

Republican Tony Strickland has built a substantial lead over Democrat Hannah-Beth Jackson in the still-undecided battle for the 19th state Senate District.

Election night ended with Jackson clinging to a 108 vote lead over Strickland. Since then, however, Strickland has surged ahead by over 2,250 votes.

Strickland's lead has increased significantly over the last few days. Just last Friday, Strickland led Jackson by about 1,500 votes.

Strickland surpasses Jackson in SD-19 vote count

Republican Tony Strickland has moved into the lead for the first time in the 19th State Senate District race against Democrat Hannah-Beth Jackson, up by more than 1,500 votes Friday evening on a count posted on the California Secretary of State's Web site.

The tallies late this week mark the first time former Assemblyman Strickland (R-Moorpark) has led in the race, which both parties targeted this fall.

California Democratic leaders see progress in Tuesday’s results

SACRAMENTO -- Democratic legislative leaders were generally pleased with the results of Tuesday's election, but noted that they're still some distance from some goals, and disappointed in a few results.

Outgoing state Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata (D-Oakland) and his successor, Sen. Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento), said at a state capitol press conference that they believed that Democrat Hannah-Beth Jackson would hold a narrow lead in her Senate District 19 race against Republican Tony Strickland.

Jackson leads Strickland by 108 votes with many provisional and mail-in ballots yet to be counted

As of Wednesday morning, Democrat Hannah-Beth Jackson is leading Republican Tony Strickland by a mere 108 votes out of over 300,000 ballots cast in the 19th Senate District.

Both campaigns are working hard throughout the morning to determine how many ballots have yet to be counted. The problem is compounded by the fact that the district is comprised of three different counties -- Ventura, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara -- making it that much harder for the campaigns to keep track of uncounted votes.

Jackson leads Strickland by razor thin margin in SD-19

By 4 a.m. Wednesday morning, with 98 percent of precincts reporting, Democrat Hannah-Beth Jackson was clinging to a 386 vote lead over Republican Tony Strickland in their fight for the 19th state Senate District.

Jackson's campaign was confident they were headed towards a victory Tuesday night when the Santa Barbara resident pulled into an early 6 point lead.

Yet as Strickland consultant Joe Justin predicted, Jackson's lead narrowed as vote totals came in from Republican-friendly areas of Ventura and Los Angeles counties.

Jackson pulls into early lead in SD-19, optimistic about prospects

Democrat Hannah-Beth Jackson has pulled into an early but substantial lead over Republican Tony Strickland in the 19th state Senate District. With about 156,000 votes counted, Jackson is leading Strickland 52 percent to 48 percent.

"So far I'm very optimistic," Jackson said. "We aren't quite at the point where we have enough numbers that we can declare victory, but it's certainly looking very favorable for us."

Strickland camp talks turnout

Tony Strickland's campaign is counting on a big turnout in select areas of the 19th state Senate District to carry him to victory Tuesday, according to political consultant Joe Justin.

"I think we need to do very well in northern Santa Barbara County and in Santa Clarita," Justin said.

Justin also emphasized the importance of running up vote totals in Thousand Oaks, Strickland's hometown, as well as Simi Valley in Ventura County.
