Support from San Francisco, Marin seen as key to Leno victory

Mark Leno’s win in the Democratic primary race for the District 3 state Senate seat was largely due to the overwhelming support from his San Francisco base combined with his success in winning votes in the Marin area, an analyst and a consultant for one of Leno’s competitors both said a day after the election.

Leno gets Pelosi endorsement

Before heading back to Washington D.C. at the end of the Memorial Day recess, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi endorsed state Senate candidate Mark Leno at a Saturday rally in San Francisco.

“I’ve known Mark for a long time,” Pelosi said to cheers. “I’ve known about his leadership. I have confidence in him as a fighter for Democratic principles.”

Leno, an Assemblyman, if facing off in a Tuesday primary against fellow Democrats Carole Migden, the incumbent, and Joe Nation, a former Assemblyman.

June 3 candidates roll out newspaper endorsements

Several candidates on the June 3 ballot picked up newspaper endorsements over the long holiday weekend.

In the race for the District 4 seat of retiring U.S. Rep. John Doolittle, Republican Doug Ose won the endorsements of the Placerville Mountain Democrat, a weekday paper. Tom McClintock, Ose’s opponent, won the nod of the weekly Sacramento Union.

Leno shows lead in new fundraising numbers

State Senate candidate Mark Leno led his Democratic primary opponents in fundraising over the last two months, fundraising reports released today show.

Leno, an Assemblyman, raised $372,506 between March 18 and May 17. Joe Nation, a former Assemblyman, took in $264,664. Embattled incumbent Carole Migden raised $192,648.

The three candidates are competing in a June 3 Democratic primary for the District 3 state Senate seat of Migden, which encompasses Marin County and parts of San Francisco and Sonoma counties.
