Lieu forms exploratory committee for Attorney General in 2010

Assemblyman Ted Lieu (D-Torrance) filed paperwork this week to run for California Attorney General in 2010.

Lieu is the third Democrat to make the move, joining San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris and former Assemblyman Joe Canciamilla.

Current Attorney General Jerry Brown could still run for re-election if he decides against running for governor.

Harris, Feinstein urge Congress to force automakers to accept California's emissions & economy standards or lose bailout cash

SAN FRANCISCO - One of Bay Area's most junior politicians, District Attorney Kamala Harris, joined with one of state's longest serving veterans, U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein, in urging Congress to force American automakers to produce cars that emit lower emissions and get better mileage - or forego any federal bailout cash.

In separate letters, the women urged Congress to require the Big Three automakers to agree to stop lobbying against California's cutting-edge emission and mileage standards or risk not getting any federal bailout money.

U.S. Attorney mum on running for state attorney general in 2010

Though there's a push from some law enforcement officials and talk among Republican insiders, U.S. Attorney McGregor Scott said he won't commit to whether he'll run for state attorney general in 2010 as a Republican.

Scott, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California, said his immediate plans are to join a Sacramento office of a national law firm as a partner after he steps down from his current post on Jan. 4.

SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris is expected to announce Wednesday that she will be a candidate for state Attorney General in 2010.

But in speaking to the San Francisco Chronicle late Tuesday, the 44-year-old Harris, now in her second term as District Attorney, cautioned that she would reverse course if current Attorney General Jerry Brown decides not to run for governor in 2010.

San Francisco's prostitution decriminalization measure begins to draw national attention

SAN FRANCISCO - Proposition K, the municipal measure that proposes to decriminalize prostitution in San Francisco, has begun to draw the attention of national news outlets and that in turn is turning out local politicians in increasing numbers.

The measure, which has been discussed on the national cable news channels this week, saw

Mayor Gavin Newsom hold a press conference Wednesday outside of an infamous Tenderloin message parlor.

Newsom said that he was present during a 2005 police raid of the parlor when he saw the rape of an underage girl in process.

SF District Attorney lambasts Prop. 8 as ‘unfair and wrong'

OAKLAND - Surrounded by leaders of the East Bay African-American and religious communities, San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris urged voters Tuesday to defeat Prop. 8, the Nov. 4 ballot measure that if approved by the voters will ban same-sex marriage in the state.

Although Assemblyman Sandre Swanson (D-Alameda) and Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums were both scheduled to attend the press conference, neither official was present. No reason was given for their absence.

SF DA joins chorus of Golden Staters saying California will lead the way for Obama

DENVER - San Francisco District Attorney and Democratic rising star Kamala Harris said that she too predicted that the Golden State will play a defining role in getting presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama elected to office.

"There is a reason why the old statement ‘So goes California, so goes the nation' is true," Harris said while shaking hands during a meeting of the California Democratic Party delegation earlier Monday.
