• The California State Bar is having their September state convention at the Manchester Hyatt.  Manchester gave $125,000 to the Yes on Prop 8 campaign, and other conventions throughout the state have shifted their conventions away from the Manchester Hyatt.  The state bar should honor the boycott. The alternative is to be forced to cross a picket line every day.

Carona trial witness testifies to making illegal contributions to Feinstein, Loretta Sanchez

SANTA ANA -- Peggy Haidl, sister of former Orange County Assistant Sheriff Don Haidl, testified this week in the corruption trial of former Sheriff Mike Carona that she made illegal campaign contributions to U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein and U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Anaheim) at the behest of a top Carona assistant.

Complaint filed against Loretta Sanchez for using campaign funds to buy clothes

U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Anaheim) has been accused by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington of illegally spending campaign funds on clothing during her most recent re-election campaign.

CREW filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission claiming that Sanchez's campaign committee spent $334.09 on clothing for the six-term congresswoman, violating the Federal Election Campaign Act, which prohibits a candidate for federal office from using campaign funds for personal use, including clothing purchases.

Brother of Sanchez sisters missing

The brother of U.S. Reps. Linda and Loretta Sanchez is missing off the coast of Southern California after an apparent boating accident.

According to a Friday statement from the Sanchez sisters, officials found debris off the coast that contained fragments from the boat their brother Henry was sailing on with his girlfriend, Penny Avila.

O.C. Reps. split on bailout vote

The five U.S. representatives who hail from Orange County were divided on the Monday vote for the emergency rescue package.

Reps. John Campbell (R-Irvine) and Ken Calvert (R-Corona) voted ford the bill, which would invest up to $700 billion in troubled financial companies. In a speech delivered from the house floor, Campbell urged his colleagues to support the legislation.

Sanchez: Obama campaign needs to show Clinton supporters some love

If the presidential campaign of U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill) is serious about convincing supporters of U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) to support Obama in his bid for the White House, U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Calif) said it might be as simple as showing Clinton supporters "some love."

"You have 18 million people out there who voted for this woman - you've got to show them love, and there's a lot of ways to do it," Sanchez said in an interview with MSNBC's Dan Abrams.

Congressional "Sister Act' may have last laugh in soon to be published memoir

California's Congressional "Sister Act" may soon have the last laugh.

After years of enduring both patronizing comments and propositions, Loretta and Linda Sanchez announced this week that they have written a joint memoir, "Dream in Color: How the Sanchez sisters are making history in Congress." The book is due to be published early next month.

John Garamendi opens account for governor run in 2010

California Lieutenant Gov. John Garamendi has added his name to list of gubernatorial candidates for 2010.

According to the California Secretary of State's website, Garamendi filed a statement of intent to run for governor this month, under the account name "Garamendi 2010."

Most political observers had expected Garamendi to run since he opened the 2010 account last year. He is also up for re-election as lieutenant governor in 2010.
