Soup Kitchens and Cell Phones

It's the new meme that made it's way from the Los Angeles Times with this headline, "Michelle Obama serves food to D.C. poor and homeless, but..."  The but of course is the man with the cell phone taking the First Lady's photo.

It doesn't detract from the first lady's generous gesture or the real needs she seeks to highlight to ask two bothersome journalistic questions about these news photos:

If this unidentified meal recipient is too poor to buy his own food, how does he afford a cellphone?

And if he is homeless, where do they send the cellphone bills?

And now it's of course another bogus

Michelle Obama hits second speech homer in as many days before packed Emily's List crowd

DENVER - A radiant Michelle Obama took an already whipped up capacity-plus crowd of mostly women at the Sheraton Denver over the top during a speech Tuesday.

Speaking to an exuberant audience attending the Emily's List gala, the spouse of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama continued the process which she started during what has quickly become an acclaimed speech Monday night at Pepsi Center.

Today's convention schedule

The Democratic National Convention will be called to order at 5:00 PM EST today, with a theme of "One Nation."  Featured speakers include Michelle Obama, U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-Ill.), former President Jimmy Carter, and Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, who will introduce a tribute to her uncle, U.S. Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.).
