Oakland Facing Bankruptcy

Yet another city is about to go under.  This time it is the crime capitol of California, Oakland.

For the past three years that Castro lover Ron Dellums has been Mayor.  For the eight years before that Jerry Brown was Mayor, 11 years of these two and the city is about to go bankrupt.

Any surprise?

Do We Want to Release 58,000 More Like Lovelle Mixon?

The Governor and a judge want to release 58,000 criminals, early from prison.

Every time this issue comes up, the name Lovelle Mixon should be mentioned and four dead Oakland cops.

This is what happens to the when the ACLU types control policy, Mixon is out and cops are dead.

Your choice--should Mixon had been forced to stay in prison?  California is in trouble--the criminals seem to have more protection than honest people--they have the guns, we must beg for them.  They get better health care than those that work.  Criminals get tax payer protection and early outs--we get the shaft.

Tell the Governor and the judge, "NO MORE OAKLANDS, KEEP CRIMINALS IN PRISON"

Oakland: Murder Capitol of California--Four Cops Killed

Everywhere in California crime is going down.  Since 2004, Oakland has seen a 40% increase in crime.  That is what happens when you have folks like Jerry Brown, then Ron Dellums as Mayor.  Criminal know that every day these radicals protect criminals and harm the cops, making their job harder.

Brown and Delllums oppose the death penalty, believe police profile--and if their is a shooting, the cops caused it.  These men do not uphold their oaths, their words or the Constitution--so why should criminals be afraid.

It is amazing that crime is up only 40%, guess the criminals take vacations or think it is like shooting ducks at a Fair.

Time for real leadership in Oakland, before the cops quit like they do in Mexico.

The Gas Tax and Transit "Armageddon"

Crossposted from the California High Speed Rail Blog

One of my lingering concerns about the Obama Administration has been that they might be tempted to claim victory with the $8 billion in HSR funding added to the stimulus and not follow up on that money, which as we know merely pays for some initial costs. But Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood made clear last week that in fact, the $8 billion in HSR stimulus really is intended as a signal to America that Obama is truly serious about building HSR:

LaHood said that for Obama building high-speed rail networks is, "if not his No.

Weekend Open Thread

What's going on this Valentine's/President's Day weekend?

• Leon Panetta was easily confirmed as CIA Director.

• A cool Jewish Community Federation event if you are in SF on the morning of Feb. 24: Shai Aggasi, CEO of Better Place will be giving the keynote to the group's Business Leadership Council breakfast.  Better Place is a very interesting company that is trying to build infrastructure for an electric car network.  They have actually already begun work on networks in Israel and Denmark, and have come to some agreements with some California mayors (including SF's Gavin Newsom and SJ's Chuck Reed).  From what I hear, he's also a very good speaker.

Thursday Open Thread

According to Darrell Steinberg there'll be a budget vote next week.  Thanks for leaving the cone of silence to let us know, pal!  In the meantime:

• The judge who allowed furloughs for state workers to go through is saying that the order does not necessarily apply to employees of Constitutional officers.  Jon Ortiz discusses the ramifications at The State Worker.  The first furlough day, by the way, is set for tomorrow.

• The editorial board revolt in the Central Valley, hard-hit by the economic crisis, continues.  The Merced Sun-Star is unusually blunt: "Why should Democrats negotiate if Republicans refuse to budge?"  And the Stockton Record is actually

AM Alert: The State of Education (plus some infighting)

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell will deliver his sixth State of Education address this morning at what could be the bleakest time for the state's schools of his tenure.

Advocates for education, the largest chunk of California's budget, are bracing for the impact of cuts in school spending expected to be approved by the Legislature and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

On the politicking side, one Schwarzenegger administration proposal seems to have successfully split the Education Coalition.

In the name of easing the blow of deep education cuts, the governor has proposed to do away with many of the earmarks -- so-called "categoricals" -- that predetermine how districts must spend the money.

Oakland developer extends remarks made during interview on making elected officials keep time sheets

OAKLAND - Developer Phil Tagami sent PolitickerCA.com an e-mail over the weekend wanting revise, extend and clarify his comments made during an interview with KTVU Friday morning.

During that interview the TV station reported that he wanted to require Mayor Ron Dellums to sign a time sheet each day to account for his hours on the job as the city's chief executive. Tagami, a major player in Oakland and East Bay politics, actually wants his idea to go further than that.

Here is his full statement:

Local developer concerned that Oakland mayor not on the job full time

OAKLAND - A local developer and political power broker said Friday that he is concerned about the kind of effort Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums is putting into the job and is asking the city chief executive to start filling out a time sheet.

Phil Tagami said that the problems facing the East Bay's capital city such as crime and government finance are starting to overwhelm the Dellums Administration and the city needs a mayor who be on the job at least eight hours a day, five days a week.
