Replacement names surfacing if Obama tabs Rep. Thompson

If U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson (D-St. Helena) is tabbed to the President-elect Barack Obama's Secretary of the Interior, a handful of contenders will look to replace him.

Former Assemblywoman Patty Berg (D-Eureka), who was termed out at the beginning of this month, said this week that she'd hate to lose Thompson as a congressman, but wouldn't definitively say no to running as his replacement if the opportunity arose.

State GOP makes video of Wiggins/pastor incident

The California Republican Party is seizing on a Democrat state senator's crude dismissal of a pastor recently with a new YouTube video that suggests the party doesn't care about state residents.

The 43-second video shows footage of State Sen. Pat Wiggins (D-Santa Rosa) and her exchange with Robert Jones, a Methodist pastor in Sacramento, during a committee hearing on global warming.

Senator stuns local pastor by saying that his argument was 'bull----' during hearing

SACRAMENTO -- That little self-editing device inside our brains that helps us avoid a thousand awkward social moments apparently took a leave of absence last week from the noggin of a North Bay state senator.

During a hearing last Wednesday that featured the testimony of Sacramento-based Pastor Robert Jones of the Oak Park United Methodist Church state Sen. Pat Wiggins abruptly cut off the pastor, saying "I think your arguments are bull----."
