Whitman: A $150 million campaign?

Former eBay chief Meg Whitman was featured in a story in Sunday's New York Times about her candidacy for governor.

One line stuck out:

That would be approximately double the cost of what Democrats Phil Angelides and Steve Westly spent in the 2006 primary -- combined.

One opponent, Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner, is a near-billionaire, but might find himself hard-pressed to keep pace with that kind of unprecedented spending.

Elected Bloviators Out In Force To Bloviate

John Garamendi has become the first gubernatorial candidate on the Democratic side to speak out publicly about the crime perpetrated on the citizens of California by a dysfunctional process.

Westly is thinking about 2010 race for governor

Former Democratic State Controller Steve Westly confirmed he was mulling a bid for governor in 2010, he told PolitickerCA.com today. He said he would not be dissuaded from running if Attorney General and former Governor Jerry Brown entered the race.

“I think both Jerry and I have advantages other candidates don’t,” Westly said, adding that he and brown had high name recognition in the state and had shown an ability to raise large amounts of money.
