Ex-county GOP chief spent $1,357 in party funds for Lindbergh airport parking? Huh? Really?

The indispensable FlashReport has a link to a blistering post/investigation by nationally syndicated columnist and popular blogger Michelle Malkin in which she lambastes San Diego County's own Ron Nehring, now head of the state GOP, for being a pro-tax RINO...

Hiding Signs, Making Toothless Resolutions - The Yacht Party In Sacramento

The Yacht Party wrapped up their convention in Sacramento yesterday, and while they didn't censure the members of the caucus who voted for tax hikes, they did deprive them of support in future elections.  There's a problem with this, of course - only Dave Cogdill and Anthony Adams are running for their seats in the next election, as everyone else is termed out.  In addition, what this really prevents is slate mailers, not really anything else.  It doesn't prevent mailers that candidates can buy a spot on, or funding from individual members of the party, etc.  This measure is good for the "heads on a stick" crowd but not for much else.

Nehring weighs in on 50-state strategy

Ron Nehring, the chairman of the California Republican Party, is weighing in on the national GOP debate over the future and direction of the party.

Nehring has written an opinion piece, published on Politico. asking "whether our party needs a 50-state strategy to reassert itself nationally."

In short, he takes both roads at the same time:

Nehring weighs in as chair of the party in the largest state in the country. But California has also voted strongly Democratic for years, including giving President Barack Obama a resounding 3.2 million vote margin-of-victory in 2008.

RNC member Shawn Steel wants next party chair to be a 'superstar'

Shawn Steel, one of three Republican National Committee members from California, is looking for a "superstar" to be the face of the party as the next RNC chair.

"I'm looking for a superstar that can go on T.V. or radio and put a couple of sentences together and make an effective, immediate presence, not somebody who has to be trained and tested," Steel, who will vote for the next RNC chair in January, told PolitickerCA.com.

While experience in front of the camera is important, it is hardly the only requirement, Steel said.

Nehring gives his two cents on the future of the Republican Party

California Republican Party Chairman Ron Nehring took to the pages of Politico to outline his take on how to rebuild the GOP from the ground up.

For starters, Nehring argued, Republican candidates must make good on campaign promises of reforming and limiting government.

Without credibility, Nehring said, "we're not even in the game."

Nehring said Republicans must also rethink their communication tactics, particularly when it comes to urban and suburban regions.

Legislators optimistic as state budget woes loom over swearing-in

STATE CAPITOL - For at least a few hours, Republicans and Democrats alike exchanged well wishes and paused to acknowledge the significance of elected office, with swearing-in ceremonies in both the state Senate and Assembly chambers Monday.

Before the formal swearing in of 24 new Assembly members and 11 new state Senators, family members and friends crowded the chamber floors, while the new and returning politicians made acquaintances with fellows on both sides of the aisle.
