Feinstein Works Hard to Stop Solar Energy

California needs more energy, quickly.  The Left will not allow drilling for oil off the Santa Barbara coast.  They will not allow nuclear power.  Windmills "kill" to many birds--juts ask Ted Kennedy why he will not allow windmills in Hyannis Port.

Now Senator Dianne Feinstein, who demands the end of oil, will not allow the creation of vast solar panel farms in the Mojave Desert, where only Google can see them.

While she and her husband are making hundreds of millions from enterprises in China, the worst pollutant on earth, Feinstein wants to bankrupt California by not allowing the creation of solar farms in our desert.

CYD Endorsement press release

Last week, I posted a brief entry about CYD's endorsements in CDP leadership races.  I received some complaints about it, and I agreed to post CYD's official press release as a clarification of sorts.  It is rather lengthy, so I am posting the full text below the fold.
Santa Barbara, CA- The California Young Democrats (CYD) took official positions on the race for the California Democratic Party's Executive Board:

Chair- John Burton.  A founding member of the San Francisco Young Democrats, John Burton has spent decades in the trenches fighting to put progressive principles into action. A leader on such issues as universal healthcare, college affordability and the living wage, CYD is confident that John Burton will continue to fight for issues young people across the state care most about.

Wednesday Open Thread

A generous sampling from around the state...

• Newt Gingrich, who for some reason the media finds still relevant, has discovered the Twitter thing that all "the kids" are using.  On it, he blatantly lied that there has been no oil spills off the coast of Santa Barbara since 1969, and was called on it by Media Matters and Keith Olbermann.  He didn't like that much, so he called upon his pals at the American Enterprise Institute to bail him out.  Needless to say, they lied too.

This conversation between Greg Lucas of California's Capitol and Bill Lockyer is well worth reading.  His main point is that hijackings like Abel Maldonado throwing Constitutional amendments into the budget process are just going to embolden obstructionists in the Yacht Party in the future.

Hollingsworth names new leadership team

Senate GOP leader Dennis Hollingsworth, in his second week as Republican leader, has announced a trio of senators that will serve as part of his new leadership team:

Sen. Mimi Walters, a freshman from Laguna Niguel, will serve as assistant majority Republican leader.

Sen. Tony Strickland, who squeaked out a victory last November, will serve as assistant GOP leader for elections. The freshman Republican represents Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.

Sen. Mark Wyland, R-Solana Beach, will be assistant GOP leader for policy development.

In a 15-member caucus -- and in a leadership vote in which four of the caucus members walked out -- that provides a pretty good idea of who Hollingsworth's backers were.

AskMoses.com isn't a direct line to God, but it's quicker than climbing Mount Sinai

Have you ever tried to define God? Or wondered whether it is ethical to eat meat? Or debated if pornography is a sin?

For a decade, AskMoses.com has been answering questions like these to a growing worldwide audience.

Rabbinic scholars from the Orthodox Jewish Chabad movement dispense the free advice online 24 hours a day, six days a week (they don't work on the Sabbath).

Last month, they announced a milestone: AskMoses has surpassed 1 million online chat sessions since it was launched by Chabad of California. The queries are fielded by rabbis and knowledgeable women in the United States, Argentina, Israel, Russia and elsewhere.

"The average person on the street does not have access to a rabbi," said Rabbi Yosef Loschak, AskMoses' "chief scholar," who is based in Santa Barbara. "Here is a way they can do that. If they have a question about Judaism, Moses is a pretty good source."

Drill Now, Stop Later Proposal Torched

The State Lands Commission scuttled a proposed compromise that would have brought new oil drilling to the Santa Barbara coast for the first time in California since 1969, in what is seemingly a victory for environmental and coastal protection advocates.  However, some are arguing that the proposal, which would have mandated closure of 4 additional oil platforms off the coast within 13 years, should have gone through.
But a parade of local officials, residents and environmental activists insisted the plan would have advanced efforts to protect the coast by eventually closing four of the region's 20 platforms.

"For the first time in history, the public and the state will be able to shut down existing oil production," argued Linda Krop, an attorney for the Environmental Defense Center and one of the people behind the proposal.

AM Alert: Meet the Press Club

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will make his sixth visit to the Sacramento Press Club today, taking questions from reporters and others during the noon hour.

The governor's appearance comes amid Big Five budget negotiations to close California's roughly $40 billion budget hole through July 2010.

The state also faces a more immediate cash shortage, as the state controller has said he will stop paying nonessential bills as early as next week to conserve money.

(On Tuesday, Chiang told the Franchise Tax Board to stop sending tax refund claims to his office.)

Don't expect too many specific answers from the governor on the state of negotiations.

On Monday, the governor was asked to comment on GOP lawmakers' environmental demands.
