California: Tom Mcclintock

California reels past point of no return? Maybe

Surveying the headlines this morning, I thought once again of Tom McClintock's farewell-to-the-Legislature speech a year ago this month where he said California had passed the turning point and was firmly on the road to ruin. The first story that...

Col. Ripper, you're one of the few people I don't want calls from. I'm guest-hosting from 6 to 8 p.m. In the first hour, I plan to talk to congressman Tom McClintock about health "reform" and the former state...

McClintock: Federal government to go the way of California's

Tom McClintock has an op-ed in today's Washington Times detailing the fiscal catastrophe now unfolding in Sacramento. Here is his sobering conclusion: The decline and fall of the California Republic is a morality play in the form of Greek tragedy....

Democrats Love to use Taxes Codes to Steal

What is the difference between taxing bonus money at 90% and taxing dividends (non "earned" money) at 90%.

The Democrats and other socialist believe that only labor is real wages, dividends, profits, bonuses are all theft of money from workers.

The Obama tax increase did have impressive GOP support--well known anti-taxers voted FOR the theft.  Tom McClintock, Ed Royce and Dana Rohrabacher all voted to confiscate the contracted bonuses.

How will they oppose a 90% rate on dividends and profits--the capital gains tax can now go up to 90% and they will have to support Obama.  Of course, that means investors will withdraw their investments in the United States.

CA-48: Could Beth Krom Beat John Galt?

Last week, OC Progressive (which has really attracted a good group of writers and provided a vital progressive voice in Orange County) revealed that Beth Krom, an Irvine City Councilwoman, is considering a run against Rep. John Campbell.  In a subsequent post, Joe Shaw explained why Krom would make a worthy challenger.
She can win elections.
Beth Krom has won five campaigns, In 2006, she garnered 60% of the vote in her re-election as Mayor and in 2008, won her current City Council seat with 8000 votes more than the next candidate.

She gets things done.
We need elected officials who have experience getting things done for their constituents.

McClintock rips on 'Schwarzennegger's crusade'

Tom McClintock may have barely squeaked out a win in a congressional district where Republicans hold a 15-point voter registration advantage. But he is clearly savoring his new speech-making perch in Congress.

McClintock, of Northern California's 4th Congressional District, is aggressively attacking Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on global warming. And the man who loves to quote historic figures from Churchill to Jefferson is now quoting himself to take on President Barack Obama's economic agenda.

On Schwarzennegger, McClintock arose to demand that the federal government hold firm against California's efforts to impose stricter emissions standards for automobiles.

"I rise to urge the president not to waive the federal law on emission standards that is currently protecting Californians from Gov.

AM Alert: Budget signing, convention drama

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger today will sign the budget package that the Legislature passed early Thursday morning.

Then comes the list of line-item vetoes.

Of course, as Jim Sanders reports in today's Bee, more money woes could be in the state's future as the economy continues to falter.

"If I could tell you what revenues are going to be in May, I would not be making this call from Sacramento -- I'd be making it from Las Vegas," quipped H.D. Palmer, a spokesman for Schwarzenegger's Department of Finance.

I'd bet the under on that.

The real drama of the weekend will be at the California Republican Party's convention, which descends on Sacramento this evening.

Brown concedes CA-04 race to McClintock

Democrat Charlie Brown has conceded defeat in the 4th Congressional District race against Republican Tom McClintock.

In a letter to supporters, Brown said that the margin of victory for McClintock, about 1,800 votes out of more than 370,000 tallied, was too much to overcome, suggesting that he'd decided against asking for a recount.
