Huck to hit Springs on Friday

Former Arkansas Governor and current vice presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee will take a break from his day job, running for president of the United States, to make a little coin on Friday in Colorado Springs.

Huckabee will be addressing the annual Leadership Program of the Rockies retreat, the self-styled, non-partisan “Defenders of Capitalism” at the decadent den of capitalists, the Broadmoor resort and hotel.

While the Inside Edge isn’t privy to how much coin exactly the Huckster will make, the man from Arkansas has a long history of making a good living by speaking in public.

It was just a week ago that Huckabee defied convention with a stop in the Cayman Islands to pick up speaking fees by addressing the Young Caymanian Leadership Awards banquet on the 16th of February.

Earlier this campaign season, Huckabee came in for a small bit of criticism when it was revealed in Newsweek that he took over $70,000 in fees while serving as Lieutenant Governor of Arkansas.

While there is nothing legally wrong with the practice, a minor storm broke over his campaign when it was alleged that over half the money was provided by RJ Reynolds Tobacco. Huckabee has denied that he ever knew where the money came from.

“He knew,” says a former RJR lobbyist with ties to Colorado. “He knew and he was stupid for lying about it. It was legal. He was speaking against Hillarycare. And he was poor at the time.”

He’s probably not poor anymore.

You too can contribute to the Mike Huckabee I’m Not Poor Anymore fund by Google-ing the Leadership Program of the Rockies and putting down $225 to attend a private reception and dinner the VP hopeful tomorrow night starting at 5:30 PM.

Just don’t smoke around him. He hates it.
