Dems ship money to CO while McCain drifts

According to an article by CQ the DSCC has shipped $161,769 to the Colorado Democratic Party, the highest amount of any state but South Dakota.

Democrats are feeling increasingly confident that they can win Colorado and it's showing in the money commitment they are making here.

CO-4 candidate Betsey Markey, a Democrat, was recently added to the Dems "Red to Blue" program meaning that she'll enjoy a certain amount of priority and financing from the national party.

Recent poll numbers have also given good news to Dems in the top of the ticket race for US Senator, although it's still pretty early to declare a winner there.

Turmoil at the top of the national ticket is partly to blame for the woes in Colorado.

There are general signs that the McCain campaign is going through one of its period purging of staff, with campaign strategists saying that the McCain campaign is drifting.

"I'm hearing that they are dead in the water," says one prominent Republican campaign manager from the southwest.

"McCain seems to thrive on these periodic upheavals in his campaign but he's never tried it as the Republican nominee," says another GOP operative in DC. "He can't win without paying attention to Colorado, which is the most swinging of the swing states, and he has not paid much attention to organization there."

Amongst individual contributors to the DSCC money effort noted by CQ are Edward Kerschner, the chief investment strategist at Citigroup who gave $28,500; Ronald Baron, chief executive officer of Baron Funds who gave the same amount; and Peter G. Angelos, the owner of the Baltimore Orioles professional baseball team who also gave $28,500.
