Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bob Schaffer has come out against a pro-life ballot measure that would define a human embyro as a person, the Rocky Mountain News is reporting.
"I think there are other strategies and tactics that get us far closer to advancing the cause of human life," Schaffer said, according to the Rocky.
Schaffer has consistantly spoken out against abortion, though he hadn't taken a stance on the personhood amendment until now, the article stated.
Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Mark Udall, a consistant pro-choice supporter, also opposes the amendment.
The personhood amendment, created and backed by the pro-life group Colorado for Equal Rights, states that any reference to "person" or "persons" in the state constitution should "include any human being from the moment of fertilization."
