Colorado Republicans are lauding John McCain's choice of Sarah Palin as a running mate, calling the pick history-making. 

State Rep. Amy Stephens (R-Monument) said in a statement that "This is a great day for America and this is a great day for women. 

"I could not be more excited about John McCain's pick of Governor Sarah Palin for vice president," she said in the statement. "She has an accomplished record of challenging the status quo and fighting business as usual in Washington.  She has put a stop to out of control spending and knows what it means to put country first.  Palin will be a great partner for John McCain and she will be great vice president of the United States."

McCain spokesperson Tom Kise echoed those thoughts, telling PolitickerCO.com that with Palin on the GOP ticket and African-American Barack Obama as the Democratic nominee, "No matter who wins, there will be history made on November the 4th."
