Colorado tops in presidential TV ad buys

There's already one winner in this year's hotly contested presidential race in Colorado: television stations.

Between Sept. 6 and Sept. 13, 1,360 presidential TV ad spots were aired in the Denver market -- more than any other media market in the country, according to Thursday's Hotline.

Another 890 presidential ads were aired in the Grand Junction market - 14th most in the country, despite the Grand Junction market's relatively small size.

More McCain ads ran in Denver than in any other market during that time period, too - 648, to be exact. Obama's campaign ran 710 ads in Denver, second only to Detroit.

However, given Colorado's relatively low ad rates, the two campaigns spent less money in the state than in other states.

The campaigns spent a combined $1.05 million on TV ads in Colorado; by contrast, the campaigns spent $2.56 million on TV ads in Pennsylvania and $2.36 million in Florida.

The study was done by TNS Media Intelligence/CMAG with analysis by the Wisconsin Advertising Project.
