Eng releases first two TV ads on cable

Sixth Congressional District Democratic candidate Hank Eng is finally on the air, releasing two commercials and making cable TV ad buys on Friday.

The commercials - both of which target Republican voters and blast Republican opponent Mike Coffman -- are the first to be aired by the Eng campaign.

In the first commercial, called "Who's Hank?", began running on Friday thanks to a weekend ad buy of about $20,000.

The ad quotes a post from the conservative blog Totheright.org calling Coffman "perhaps the state's worst politician" and lists phrases from newspaper articles calling Coffman's competency into question.

"Oh no!" says an actor playing a suddenly disillusioned 6th District Coffman voter. "Well who can I vote for?"

Enter Hank Eng.

The attacks will get even more direct in Eng's second ad, "Mike Coffman headlines," which will begin airing Monday.

"Congressional candidate Mike Coffman hopes that voters haven't been reading the news," an announcer states as negative press coverage flashes across the screen. "After all, if they have, why would they want to send him to Congress?"

Coffman manager Dustin Zvonek responded that "It surprises me that someone who's only been in the state three years isn't spending more time trying to educate voters about who he is and what he wants to do in Congress."

Eng moved to Colorado in 2005 from Appleton, Wis., where he served on the City Council.

Zvonek said he was surprised the Eng campaign, which had more than $140,000 on hand as of Sept. 30, didn't start airing introductory ads two months ago before moving to attack ads.
