Salazar: Markey has won CD-4

DENVER--U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar (D-Denver) has told a cheering crowd at a Democratic rally at a downtown hotel that Democrat Betsy Markey has upset U.S. Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-Fort Morgan) in the 4th Congressional District.

The Rocky Mountain News also projects Markey will win. With 65 percent of precincts reporting, Markey has about 58 percent of the vote -- including significant majorities in the three major counties in the district.

Perhaps most importantly, Markey is leading Musgrave 54-46 in Weld County, the second-most populous county in the district.

Musgrave won Weld County in 2006 with 49 percent of the vote. Democrat Angie Paccione won just 37 percent in Weld County during that election.

Markey is also leading with 60 percent-plus of the vote in her home district of Larimer County, the district's most-populous county.
