Madonna concert wins over McInnis

Few people enjoyed Madonna's Tuesday night concert in Denver more than former U.S. Rep. Scott McInnis (R-Grand Junction).

"It was a fabulous performance. I don't know where she gets all that energy -- she's 50 years old. She had that crowd going," McInnis said Wednesday. "I'd go back to a Madonna concert in a heartbeat."

McInnis and his son got club-level tickets from a friend to see the Material Girl at the Pepsi Center.

"I'm a country music guy, OK? I walked into that concert and told my son, ‘I'm probably going to leave after the first song.'" McInnis said. "I stayed ‘til the last song."

McInnis also gave rave reviews to the lavish concert production and Madonna's stamina on stage.

"Somebody told me she's one of the few performers that performs with all of her dancers -- every move. Performers come out, dance with the dancers five minutes, then they disappear -- generally up here (at Denver's altitude) to go get oxygen," McInnis  said. "It was 150 percent that whole two hours. I mean, they put her in a double jumping rope, too -- ropes going in opposite directions, just singing while she's jumping rope."

"If you look at her concert schedule -- which I did this morning - she's doing this every two days," he continued. "I told my son last night, ‘she can't be doing more than one of these a week.' And the next (concert) is not in, you know, Hays, Kansas -- the next one's like in Pittsburgh. Then the next one's in L.A."

McInnis' one criticism about the concert was that Madonna apparently didn't practice what she preached when it came to her anti-global warming message.

"She likes to talk about global warming and all this or that, showing on the (concert) screen," McInnis said.

But when McInnis left the Pepsi Center through a back entrance, he said he saw a fleet of vehicles idling outside.

"There were approximately 40 semis to move the stage -- I mean, she has a setup you can't believe. There were at least 12-15 private buses. All of them were idling; they're all sitting out there," McInnis said. "And I'm thinking, ‘You're the one who's lectures about global warming?' And how much electricity did you use tonight in the Pepsi Center? And where's your next stop -- Pittsburgh?"
