Dick Wadhams will seek re-election as Colorado Republican Party chair, he told the Denver Post on Tuesday.

The announcement likely ward off runs by several Republicans, including El Paso County Republican Party Chair Greg Garcia, who said he was approached by several Colorado Springs-area Republicans last week about running.

When told Wadhams planned to run again, Garcia said Tuesday, "Good, Good. I'm glad to hear that."

Garcia said he didn't plan to run for state chair.

"We've got a lot of work to do, and we've got to unify the party," Garcia said.

 Former Colorado GOP Executive Director Mike Hesse also told PolitickerCO.com last week that he was waiting to see if Wadhams would seek re-election.

Wadhams' two-year term is up next March. He received criticism following the election earlier this month for, among other things, running Bob Schaffer's unsuccessful U.S. Senate campaign while remaining party chair.

Wadhams didn't immediately return a phone call seeking comment Tuesday morning.
