Democrats' party toasts gains statewide

CNN political analyst Paul Begala regaled a festive Colorado Democratic Party on Saturday night with jabs at George W. Bush and Rush Limbaugh, whom he challenged to run for president in 2012.

He cracked numerous jokes about Limbaugh, especially focusing on the conservative commentator's weight. Then, chiding Bush, he described a new swing set that President Barack Obama has installed for his daughters at the White House.

"It's so much better than the one that George W. used to play on," the former adviser to Bill Clinton said. He described Bush, who has returned to Texas, as "all hat and no cattle.

Stimulus bill signing plays up future

The president arrives in Denver today to whip the economy into shape. So is Colorado the "before" picture, or the "after" picture?

President Barack Obama will sign the $787 billion stimulus package at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science at a time when Colorado represents a little of both.

Home prices have shrunk and unemployment bumped up; Colorado-based companies have seen their stock prices plummet, and declining sales-tax revenues plague local governments. Conversation on the street or in the typical coffeehouse tends to turn to joblessness, fears of salary cuts, investment losses and health care costs.

But Obama will make his grand national gesture in a state where two of his pet industries of the future are thriving

Rasmussen, the only poll that matters to Republicans

Pollster Scott Rasmussen of Rasmussen Reports. (Image/FOX News)

Last week, as it’s done every week for nearly two years, New Jersey-based Rasmussen Reports cycled a question about Congress into its nightly political tracking poll. Over two nights, around 1,000 voters (they must be voters or say they are to be included in the poll) were asked by an automated, voice-activated pollster whether they they would support a Democratic candidate or a Republican candidate for Congress, were the election held today.

The result was surprisingly close. Only 40 percent of the voters who talked to Rasmussen Reports said they’d support the Democrats, while 39 percent said they’d support the Republicans.

Obama "President's Day" Photo Turns Controversial

As the Colorado Springs Gazette reports:
President Barack Obama's picture was removed this week from a Presidents Day sign at the Peterson Air Force Base commissary after customers complained that the image did not fit the holiday commemorating the birthdays of past presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

The head of the local NAACP and a commissary employee say it was blatant racism.

The picture of the first black president accompanied a sign near the entrance listing the government-run military grocery store's operating hours on for Presidents Day. The store will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Employees took the sign down after customers complained that the holiday wasn't about the current president, according to the Defense Commissary Agency, which oversees the base grocery stores.

Salazar for VEEP? Yes.

Sources inside the Beltway have told Inside Edge that the selection of US Senator Ken Salazar as Vice Presidential nominee isn’t out of the question and has in fact been floated in some Democratic circles.

“He’s Hispanic and he’s from a state that really counts in the general election,” says one DC consultant about Salazar’s chances.

Bill Clinton Makes His Case For Hillary At DU Rally

Former President Bill Clinton stumped for his wife Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign Wednesday night at the University of Denver's Magness Center, answering critics who say his wife is too polarizing and unwilling to bring significant changes to America and the world.

Clinton disputed that his wife wouldn't be able to unify Americans simply because she's a frequent target of many Republicans.

"That makes her polarizing -- Rush Limbaugh says bad things about her?" Clinton asked.
