Tancredo, Allard ride off into political sunset

WASHINGTON — The way Tom Tancredo sees it, he got to live out a scene from his favorite movie.

In the classic Western "Rio Bravo," Ricky Nelson and John Wayne fight a battle against the movie's bad guys. To draw their opponents out, Nelson fires a shot and says: "That ought to start something." It does, with the gunfight resuming.

Tancredo fired metaphorical shots as a congressman from Littleton.

By repeatedly making provocative statements during his 10 years in Congress, Tancredo believes he spurred activism and helped block legislation that would have allowed illegal immigrants to eventually gain legal status.

Colorado pundits and pols forecast Election Day results

PolitickerCO.com asked some Colorado political figures and pundits to predict who will win on Election Day. Here's what they said:

 

John Straayer, political science professor at Colorado State University:

President: Barack Obama (D) 52 percent; John McCain (R) 48 percent

U.S. Senate: Mark Udall (D) 54 percent; Bob Schaffer (R) 46 percent

Fourth Congressional District: Betsy Markey (D) 50.5 percent; Marilyn Musgrave (R) 49.5 percent

GOP election losses could spark internal state party debate

With the Colorado Republican Party possibly facing possible losses in the presidential, U.S. Senate, and 4th Congressional District races, among others, many say the party will have a post-election internal debate about possibly shifting the party to a more centrist position.

And, it's uncertain if that debate will be civil.
