State GOP keeps Wadhams in charge

Colorado Republicans overwhelmingly re-elected Dick Wadhams as their state party chairman during a rowdy meeting Saturday where a conservative challenger accused him of being a liberal.

It also took three votes to pick a new vice chairman.

Dozens of new faces and plenty of familiar ones jammed Douglas County High School for the Republican State Central Committee meeting to elect new party officers.

"There's so much energy coming out of the party right now, and it's neat," said John Ransom, chairman of the Douglas County Republican Party.

Wadhams, who was seeking a second two-year term, faced challenges from former Eagle County Commissioner Tom Stone and Aurora housewife Christine Tucker.

Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, Ron Paul fall flat

In a GOP state assembly notable for its spectacular competence there were two exceptions to that rule.

The Rocky Mountain Gun Owners (RMGO) and the Ron Paul campaign teamed up on Saturday to field a slate of national delegate candidates that failed to gain any traction amongst the Republican state delegates.

Hillman wins Republican National Committeeman slot; Schultheis finishes third

Former acting state treasurer Mark Hillman won today's state convention vote for Republican National Committeeman with 55 percent of the vote.

GOP activist Leondray Gholston finished second with 26 percent of the vote, party officials said; state Sen. Dave Schultheis finished a surprising third with 19 percent of the vote.
