Hillman rules out bid for elective office in 2010

The Republican bench in Colorado got a bit thinner this weekend. Former acting state treasurer and Senate Majority Leader Mark Hillman has decided he won’t run for office next year, Mike Saccone reports Sunday in the Political Notebook blog. “Just wanted to give you a heads up that I’ve begun telling my closest friends and best supporters that I will NOT be running for office in 2010,” Hillman wrote in an e-mail to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel political reporter.

Hillman, a Burlington farmer who serves as one of three Coloradans on the Republican National Committee, has been mentioned as a possible

GJ Sentinel's Mike Saccone off to A.G. Suthers' office

Say what you will about the Grand Junction Sentinel, with their wing-nut columnists (i.e. Rick Wagner and Gary Harmon), tilted editorial page (where George Will is the moderate) or wackily funny You Said It!' comments from readers upset about roundabouts, communists in the White House, or evil Bill Ritter out to tax and destroy all life on the Western Slope...

But the Sentinel has long led Colorado papers in reporting about it's turf...with numerous local reporters covering the Western Slope in the way one or two stringers for the 'state-wide' papers cannot match.

For a few years now, Mike Saccone has led the way in his reporting on Colorado and national politics, and how they might impact or play on the Western Slope.

Republicans blast Salazar, Markey with radio ads on stimulus vote

The National Republican Campaign Committee (NRCC) is finally putting its money where its mouth has been. A round of radio ads targeting 30 Democrats in conservative or swing districts began airing Friday — among the targets were freshman Rep. Betsy Markey and third-term Rep. John Salazar of Colorado — who plan to vote in favor of the $790 billion economic stimulus package.

The 60-second radio ads blast Markey and Salazar “for supporting a trillion-dollar spending bill chock full of wasteful Washington spending instead of working across the aisle to create real jobs for struggling middle-class families,” according to an NRCC release.

McLobbyist to make a run for Gov?

Mike Saccone of the GJ Sentinel has liftedpicked up a story from the Denver Post Politics West suggesting that former 3rd CD Representative McInnis may be angling for a run at Governor in 2010:
Republican Scott McInnis is starting to sound more and more like a gubernatorial candidate.

The former Congressman hasn't made any official announcements yet, but on Wednesday he talked about his intention to put a poll into the field to take the pulse of state voters on a variety of issues.  And  while he applauded Gov. Bill Ritter's focus on  building a "green economy," he appeared to also chide him for not viewing things through a wider lense (sic).

Rove: Obama would win Colorado, presidency if election were held today

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama would win Colorado - and the presidency -- if the election were held today, GOP strategist Karl Rove stated Monday on his Web site.

If the election were held today, Obama would win every state John Kerry won in 2004, while adding New Mexico (5 EV), Iowa (7 EV), and Colorado (9 EV) to his coalition," Rove wrote, citing the latest wave of state polls to be released in the past few days.
