Markey scores kudos from GOP business group, Dem operatives alike

Republicans looking to challenge freshman Rep. Betsy Markey got a double dose of bad news Monday. The CD 4 congresswoman was named to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Frontline Program to hyper-boost her re-election bid on the same day the Dem got a rare head nod from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the pro-business group joined at the hip to the GOP.

The Chamber saluted Markey by press release for backing the stimulus bill, citing Obama administration figures that the district would gain 8,800 jobs over the next two years.

“Since the elections, we’ve worked with the President and Congresswoman Markey to quickly pass a bill that would apply a defibrillator to the economy and shock it back to life,” said Bruce Josten, the U.

NRCC attacks Salazar in radio ad

The National Republican Congressional Committee, according to a report in the Colorado Independent, has launched a radio ad against the fiscally conservative Congressman John Salazar, D-Colo., attacking his support of the economic stimulus package.

The ad, which the Colorado Independent has posted on its Web site, includes a narrator doing her best impression of the congressman … which sounds nothing like him.

Nonetheless, this likely is the first wave of attacks on Salazar and the 243 other Democrats who supported the bill in January. (State Rep. Cory Gardner, R-Yuma, in a recent radio interview, attacked Salazar’s colleague, Congresswoman Betsy Markey D-Colo., for only creating jobs at the U.

NRCC Attacks Dems On Stimulus

From the Colorado Independent:
The National Republican Campaign Committee (NRCC) is finally putting its money where its mouth has been. A round of radio ads targeting 30 Democrats in conservative or swing districts began airing Friday - among the targets were freshman Rep. Betsy Markey and third-term Rep. John Salazar of Colorado - who plan to vote in favor of the $790 billion economic stimulus package.

The 60-second radio ads blast Markey and Salazar "for supporting a trillion-dollar spending bill chock full of wasteful Washington spending instead of working across the aisle to create real jobs for struggling middle-class families," according to an NRCC release.

NRCC launches attack on Markey, other swing-district Dems, on stimulus

As if that last campaign season wasn’t long enough, it looks like the next one is already well underway. The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) launched a fusillade on Monday against 25 House Democrats who voted in favor of the $819 billion stimulus bill last week. Freshman Rep. Betsy Markey, the first Democrat to represent the 4th District in more than three decades, was the lone lawmaker to merit the NRCC’s attention in Colorado.

The stimulus bill — up for debate in the Senate this week — passed on a vote of 244-188 without the support of a single Republican. Markey, like the other four Democrats from Colorado, voted in favor of the package.
