RNC Chair Angers Republicans...Again

It wasn't long ago that new RNC Chair Michael Steele was forced to apologize to Rush Limbaugh for not being nice to him. Now Steele has made another boo-boo, as The Washington Post reports:
Republican National Committee Chairman Michael S. Steele was on the receiving end of a fresh round of criticism from prominent party members yesterday after an interview was released in which he referred to abortion as an "individual choice."

His comments to GQ magazine inflamed abortion opponents, one of the GOP's core constituencies, and further complicated an already difficult first month on the job for Steele.

Wadhams speaks: ‘Our fundamental principles are pretty darn solid’

State GOP chairman Dick Wadhams sits down and opens up on a wide range of political topics in an illuminating interview with Colorado Statesman editor Jody Hope Strogoff and reporter Jason Kosena, who was The Colorado Independent’s chief political reporter through the 2008 election.

Unlike his ubiquitous — sometimes vulgar — sound bites issued during the heat of the campaign, Wadhams sounds positively relaxed and introspective as he discusses the future of the Republican Party in Colorado, prospects for retaking the legislature and statewide seats, and even whether Marilyn Musgrave should have called to concede to Betsy Markey after losing her 4th District seat in Congress (short answer: yes).

New RNC Leadership?

Not really. His track record is just more of the same crazy "conservatism" that has plagued the party for so long.

Former Maryland Lt. Governor Michael Steele was just elected chairman of the RNC. Here are five facts about the new leader of the Republican party:

1. Steele compared stem cell research to Nazi experiments during the Holocaust.

2. Steele bused in homeless African Americans from Philadelphia to distribute literature in inner-city Baltimore that featured a "Sample Democratic Ballot" with votes for Steele and former Gov. Bob Ehrlich, along with photos of prominent black Democrats.

3. Steele once described that "R" next to his name as a "scarlet letter," complaining that being a Republican was hurting his electoral chances.

RNC candidates backed by Wadhams, Hillman trail on first ballots

The two candidates for Republican National Committee chairman endorsed by Colorado RNC members are vying for last place after four rounds of balloting, Dave Weigel reports on our sister site The Washington Independent. Colorado GOP chairman Dick Wadhams has publicly backed Michigan GOP chairman Saul Anuzis and RNC committeeman Mark Hillman threw in with former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, but the rest of the RNC seem to be favoring the other three candidates for the top party post.

None of the candidates — the other three are current RNC chairman Mike Duncan, South Carolina GOP chairman Katon Dawson and former Maryland Lt.

Let Saul lead our Comeback

I’ve read literally hundreds of emails. I’ve read all the plans. I’ve listened to more arguments than I can count. I’ve spoken to and met with all the candidates.

Salazar: Palin won't send Clinton supporters to GOP

U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar (D-Denver) told CNN Friday that he didn't think Sarah Palin would help the Republican ticket pick up Hillary Clinton supporters.

"What's going to happen here is that desire to change that Hillary Clinton has helped bring about will ultimately lead to [an Obama]-Biden win in November. I don't think it changes the dynamics," Salazar said to CNN.
