Good Luck with That Reelection Thing, Walt

Within hours of Obama's speech giving strong support for the House Bill on health care reform, and with the endorsement of the bill by both the American Medical Association and the AARP, Congressman Walt Minnick announces he will vote against it.

“Over the last several months, I have met with thousands of constituents from all over Idaho’s First Congressional District. They are gravely concerned about the economy, about job security, and about the kinds of opportunities their children and grandchildren will have to make a better life.

“Like most of them, I believe that cutting down the cost of health care is one important step we can take in moving our economy forward.

Senator Risch Participates in Medicare, But Against the Public Option

The junior senator from Idaho is the thirteenth (13th) richest in Congress, enjoys some fine federal benefits, including health care insurance, AND collects his medicare benefits. Medicare is a government-funded; government-administered single-payer health care system. That's not even proposed in the current health care reform debate to cover the uninsured. Yet he's adamantly opposed to "to government-run health care" which includes opposition to the public option. To gain his support, "any proposed health care bill must control costs while at the same time protect patients." According to the CBO the public option will reduce the deficit and come in under Obama's ceiling of $900 billion. Not only that its popular almost everywhere. And if Medicare is good enough to protect the senator then such government program should be good enough to protect the rest of us, particularly those 47 million who lack any insurance at all.  read more »

Cause Found for Obama Derangement Syndrome

As Digby points out, somebody needs to tell Glenn Beck that proof has been found that Obama is actually trying to kill Republicans.

Republican men nationwide may have experienced a drop in testosterone levels the night Barack Obama was elected president, according to the results of a small study that found another link between testosterone and men's moods.

By taking multiple saliva samples from 183 young men and women on election night, researchers found that the testosterone levels of men who voted for John McCain or Robert Barr dropped sharply 40 minutes after Obama was announced the winner.

Obama to GOP: "Grab a Mop."

"Obama's come up with political gold to counter any attempt to pass a Republican mess off as his own," writes NicolasC in his Kos diary "or criticize him for not cleaning it up fast enough. And we need to repeat it ad infinitum and scream it from rooftops. This needs to become the political catchphrase of the next year."

A heckler is a person who shouts a disparaging comment at aperformance or event, or interrupting set-piece speeches, for example at a political meeting, with intent to disturb its performers or
participants.

Heckling appears to be the Republicants best hope for countering Obama's health care plan. They've used it in town hall meetings, even heckling chronically ill persons in wheelchairs trying to explain what they've endured, now they've done during a President's speech.

My initial reaction to the angry ejaculaton of YOU LIE! by House Rethuglican Joe Wilson, from the birthing place of the Confederacy and the Civil War - South Carolina, (also home to a philandering and mendacious Governor), was to attribute it to his crackerassed angry racist white man's contempt and derision for a powerful black man in a position of authority who was exercising it.

Arm Yourselves With The Truth

As Obama prepares to launch the counter attack on health care reform at a pivotal place and a pivotal juncture, a joint session of the United States Congress. The lunatics have had their month in the sun spreading a tide of misinformation provided by the Republican Noise Machine. And while we want our president to fight, to use the bully pulpit to do the things we elected him to do, the things he promised he would do, we all know that he's set for life and it would be just as easy for him to compromise real reform away. As he personally reminded us, this wasn't his campaign, but ours. Are we up to the challenge? Can we win this? And to this call to arms I reply: 'Yes we can!'  read more »

After an audience member shouted a question about "Obama tags" during a discussion on wolves, Rammell responded, "The Obama tags? We'd buy some of those."  read more »
