Cassaro becomes third Democratic Senate candidate on TV

Focusing on the economy and name recognition, Prospect physician and Democratic Senate candidate Mike Cassaro has joined the Senate race ad war just days before the May 20 Democratic primary.

Cassaro's campaign is airing two different ads this weekend on networks in Louisville and Lexington. The ads are expected to run through Monday.

The two thirty-second spots on the air are entitled "Who is Mike Cassaro?" and "On the Economy." They are available for viewing on Cassaro's website. (The ads airing are the two videos side-by-side in the middle of the front page).

"Who is Mike Cassaro?" introduces the candidate as a "family man," "church-goer, physician, educator, and businessman.

The campaign's spot on the economy blames a "weak dollar" on President George W. Bush and Kentucky's Republican incumbent Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Louisville) - who will face the winner of the Democratic primary in November.

The second ad claims Cassaro will "penalize" corporations outsourcing jobs from Kentucky.

Cassaro joins fellow Democratic candidates Greg Fischer and Bruce Lunsford as the only candidates in the seven-man field on the air.

Lunsford was shown up twenty points over Fischer in the Lexington Herald-Leader's latest poll at 43 to 23 percent, while Cassaro pulled just 5 percent support.
