[img_assist|nid=622|title=Congressional candidate Anne Northup|desc=|link=none|url=undefined|align=right|width=191|height=200]Following her big win this evening in the 3rd Congressional District Republican primary, Anne Northup (R-Louisville) is already targeting her November opponent, Congressman John Yarmuth (D-Louisville).

According to a copy of her speech distributed this evening, Northup appears to be on the offensive against Yarmuth already.

"My opponent will try to make this race about the past. He'll use George Bush's name as many times as possible because it worked for him during the last campaign. Well you know what? That President's name isn't on the ballot this year," said Northup in the speech. "This Congressional election is about how Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats have done for the last two years, and how John Yarmuth has done for the last two years. The question we have to answer is, are we better off as a community than we were two years ago."

Northup also praised her only serious competition for the KY-3 Republican nomination. Louisville developer Chris Thieneman showed at only twenty percent in tonight's race, but Northup acknowledged that she hoped he continued to be involved in politics.

"Chris Thieneman has proven himself to be a strong advocate for cutting taxes and I appreciate his steadfast enthusiasm on that issue," said Northup. "He has a bright future and I hope that he continues to fight for the conservative values that he and I share."

Her November battle against Congressman Yarmuth will be a rematch of the KY-3 general election of 2006, when Yarmuth upset a then-incumbent Northup after targeting Northup's past support of the war in Iraq.
