Recanvass yields few changes in SD-11, HD-92

The three recanvasses conducted by county elections boards today show no change in the winners of last Tuesday's primary.

Votes in the hotly-contested 11th state Senate District Republican primary were recalculated after former U.S. Marshal and Boone County Jailer John Schickel (R-Union) eeked out a 24 vote win over former state Representative Charlie Walton (R-Florence). Recalculations show no difference in vote counts, and Schickel's win will stand.

With no Democratic opposition in November, he is now assured of a seat in Frankfort for the next legislative term.

In the 92nd state House District, a recanvass actually gave incumbent state Rep. Ancel 'Hard Rock' Smith a larger win than appeared in initial counts. After this morning's recalculations, Smith increased his lead over opponent John Sizemore from 235 to 298 votes.
