New website emphasizing social networking unveiled for Yarmuth

U.S. Rep John Yarmuth (D-Louisville) launched a new website today emphasizing the use of social networking media to inform and connect supporters and potential voters.

Located at yarmuthforcongress.com, the updated site includes now-political standard links to the candidate's profiles and networks on heavily-trafficked social networking sites such as Facebook and Myspace. In addition, visitors can track the Congressman via a site called "Twitter", which provides frequent, yet brief updates about a subject's daily routine.

For example, Yarmuth's "Twitter" page currently states the freshman U.S. Rep is "in D.C." Earlier updates tell visitors Yarmuth was "on the House floor" or "at the PGA charity golf event."

Visitors to the new site can also link to Yarmuth's Youtube page, which includes testimonial videos from a number of supporters.

A campaign spokesperson also notes that the "Issues" section of Yarmuth's new site is updated from Yarmuth's last run in 2006.

The "energy" portion of that section now includes references to Yarmuth's recent support of "Use it or Lose it" legislation that would impose fines on oil companies leasing federal lands but not drilling upon them.

Yarmuth faces former U.S. Rep Anne Northup (R-Louisville), whom he unseated in 2006, in a rematch this year.
