New campaign manager on board with Northup

Former U.S. Rep. Anne Northup (R-Louisville) is currently working with a new campaign manager in her effort to re-take the 3rd Congressional District seat currently held by U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Louisville).

Businessman Larry Hartog is presently on board with the Northup camp, assuming the role after Northup parted ways with her previous campaign manager Scott Will in early August.

“He’s the kind of guy we needed,” said Northup’s campaign spokesman Ted Jackson, referring to Hartog’s business background.

Hartog joins the campaign with experience working in management with several Kentucky businesses, including the Kentucky Manufacturing Company.

Jackson also noted Hartog was part of a unit of Northup supporters loyal to their candidate since her first campaign in 1996, when she unseated Democratic incumbent Mike Ward.

“We have the exact same team of people who have been involved since 1996,” Jackson said.

Will was an exception to that standard, having joined the campaign after working for two presidential campaigns during the Iowa caucus.

During past campaigns, Hartog provided some financial support to Northup. From 1999 to 2006, he gave $11,500 in campaign contributions to Northup’s re-election efforts

Jackson –- Northup’s campaign chairman -- said Hartog and he are part of a campaign team that engages in “consensus management,” whereby they account for differing perspectives among staff and reach agreement before decisions are made.

Corrected, 12:26pm: Northup's opponent in 1996 was incorrectly identified as Mike Weaver. She beat Mike Ward that year.
