Bob Kerrey to campaign for Boswell and Lunsford in Hardin County

Another veteran and former U.S. Sen. will be hitting the campaign trail for Democratic Senate candidate Bruce Lunsford, as Bob Kerrey (D-Neb.) will join Lunsford and 2nd Congressional District candidate David Boswell (D-Owensboro) at a Saturday event in Hardin County.

Kerrey, a one-time presidential candidate and former governor, served in the Senate for 12 years and is a decorated Vietnam veteran.

Kerrey, Lunsford, and Boswell will also be joined by Gov. Steve Beshear (D-Lexington) and former Gov. John Y. Brown, Jr. at the North Hardin Christian Academy Gymnasium on Saturday, from 3 to 4 pm. That site is located at Rogersville Road and Joe Prather highway.

Veterans will also have the opportunity to meet Kerrey.

The latest visit from a high-profile Democratic veteran comes while Lunsford is the target of criticism from the campaign of U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Louisville) on veterans' issues. McConnell's camp is running ads accusing VA health clinics operated by Valor Healthcare - where Lunsford sits on the board - of providing "deficient care."

Disabled Vietnam veteran and U.S. Sen. Max Cleland (D-Ga.) was in Kentucky last weekend on behalf of Lunsford, and he derided the Valor ads as a "distraction," and blasted McConnell's own record on veterans.

The joint appearance with Boswell will be at least the second in two days, as the two are also scheduled to be joined by former President Bill Clinton in Bowling Green on Friday, though details of that visit are not yet confirmed.

Boswell faces state Sen. Brett Guthrie (R-Bowling Green) in the 2nd District. Guthrie is a veteran of the 101st Airborne division of the U.S. Army.
