The Louisville Courier-Journal reports incumbent U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Louisville) is leading opponent Bruce Lunsford (D-Louisville) by five points in a poll of 817 likely voters. The paper's "Bluegrass Poll" gives McConnell a 47 to 42 percent lead, with 9 percent undecided.
Though specifics are not yet available, the lead is a four point swing in favor of McConnell from the Courier-Journal's last poll of the race in September, which showed the Republican incumbent holding just a one point lead amid increasing financial tumult.
The new poll was conducted from Oct. 27 to Oct. 29.
Last week, two polls from Research 2000 commissioned by the Lexington Herald-Leader and the Daily Kos found McConnell with a four point lead over Lunsford.
Rasmussen Reports, meanwhile, gave the incumbent a seven point advantage in a poll released Oct. 21.
