Moore denounces potential challenges to SH-26 result

State Rep. Tim Moore (R-Elizabethtown) says further challenges to the results in his re-election bid against Mike Weaver (D-Elizabethtown) would "undermine the very system of democratic elections."

"The election is valid by any stretch of the imagination," Moore told PolitickerKY.com today.

Weaver reportedly is considering challenging votes from one precinct in the 26th state House district amid what his campaign spokesperson claimed was the mishandling of votes. Such a challenge would come after last week's recanvass of the results, which found Moore maintaining the 108 vote lead he held after Election Day. Moore said that result has been certified by county officials twice now.

A new challenge by Weaver would take the case before the Democratically-controlled state House of Representatives.
Moore said such a move would be "quite shocking," and suggested it would shine a negative light on election officials in Hardin County, where the 26th is centered.

"To cast dispersion on all of them - I find that to be pathetic," said Moore.

For his part, Moore said he thought the election result was likely to hold.

"Unless there is some kind of politically motivated and underhanded dealings, it will stand," Moore said.

Moore ripped Weaver's efforts to take the seat as "the most negative campaign" in Hardin County history.

"This kind of desperation for power, for whatever reason, seems to be continuing," Moore added.

The spokesperson from the Weaver campaign did not return a request for comment.
