Weaver set to challenge SH-26 results in state House

It appears the race for the 26th state House district will now be thrown into the hands of the Democratically-controlled state House, as Democrat Mike Weaver, of Elizabethtown, will reportedly challenge the election results of his bid against state Rep. Tim Moore (R-Elizabethtown), according to the Associated Press.

According to state law, a candidate who wants to contest election results throws the challenge before the lower chamber.

Weaver’s campaign charges laws were violated on Election Day at one Hardin County precinct, alleging a voting machine was opened and ballots were then removed and fed into another machine. The allegations were first made public after a re-canvass of results in the district showed Weaver was 108 votes behind Moore.

Democrats hold a large majority in the state House, which will now evidently decide the outcome of the race. Weaver himself served in that body until he ran a losing bid for the 2nd Congressional District in 2006. He also unsuccessful sought the Democratic nomination for state treasurer in 2007.

Yesterday, Moore rejected the continued efforts by Weaver as “pathetic” and said they were an extension of “the most negative campaign” in Hardin County history.

"This kind of desperation for power, for whatever reason, seems to be continuing," Moore told PolitickerKY.com.
