Updated: Whitfield, Beshear will join Bush during Fort Campbell visit

U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield (R-Hopkinsville) will join President George W. Bush tomorrow at the Fort Campbell military installation in southern Kentucky for a ceremony to honor a soldier for his volunteer service.

Whitfield will reportedly fly with Bush from Washington on Air Force One in time to arrive for the 10 am event.

At the ceremony, Bush is set to award wounded Iraq veteran Sergeant John Forbess with the Volunteer Service Award.

After being injured in Iraq in 2003, Forbess now serves as a mentor for other wounded troops at Fort Campbell.

Fort Campbell is situated partially in the 1st Congressional District represented by Whitfield. The Army's 101st Airborne Unit is based there.

Bush's trip comes on the heels of two November trips to Kentucky by his wife, First Lady Laura Bush. Mrs. Bush campaigned for 2nd Congressional District U.S. Rep.-elect Brett Guthrie (R-Bowling Green) the day before the general election and returned recently to Hodgenville for an event commemorating the birthday of Abraham Lincoln.

Update, 5:46pm: Gov. Steve Beshear (D-Lexington) is also set to meet with Bush and attend a luncheon with troops at Ft. Campbell, according to a brief release from the Gov.'s office this afternoon.
