Walker not a likely candidate for SD-32

After becoming the first Mayor of Bowling Green in history to win re-election earlier this year, Elaine Walker says she is not likely to seek the 32nd state Senate district seat.

As the district - which includes part of Bowling Green  - is poised to open with incumbent state Sen. Brett Guthrie (R-Bowling Green) moving on to his new role as U.S. Rep. from the 2nd Congressional District, speculation has begun as to who wants to fill the vacancy.

Walker said she had been approached about running for Guthrie's seat on a number of occasions and she said she had "given it some thought."

Still, in an interview with PolitickerKY.com, she said "I don't think I will be pursuing that race."

Noting that she was "not sure" she was totally out of the running, Walker said issues in Bowling Green were of foremost concern to her.

"There are so many things still going on," Walker said of her current post.

While she noted a state legislative position could also influence local issues in Bowling Green, she was likely to stay in her Mayoral role at the current time.

No date has yet been set for the election to fill Guthrie's seat as he has not yet officially stepped down.
