Kentucky: Crit Luallen

Crit Luallen gets national recognition for being a badass

Yes, we in Kentucky already know this, but as Jake reports, Crit is now getting national recognition for rooting out corruption and waste. She was just named Public Official of the Year by Governing Magazine:
Frankfort’s Fiscal Enforcer

THEY DON’T COME MORE AUTHENTICALLY Kentucky than Crit Luallen. She’s a descendant of two Kentucky governors and of a prominent whiskey distiller, as well as a familiar face in Frankfort’s halls of power. What Luallen clearly hasn’t inherited, however, is the loose ethical standard that has given the Bluegrass State more than its share of political scandals over the years.

As the state’s top fiscal cop, Luallen exposes corruption wherever she finds it.

Thank God for Swing Voters

I'm not going to link to him because I don't take him seriously, but Shack bird-dogged a link and a poll result (or more appropriately, was given it by the Mongiardo camp; why no love here, guys? I feel like I'd be open to considering your line on stuff, especially after the ineptitude that Team Conway showed this week; moving on...) that I need to break down.

SUSA polled for WHAS-TV in 15 counties (assuming the Louisville media market); we don't know when the poll went in the field, or how many voters they called. Only two questions were asked that anybody's bothered to publish:

A new Survey USA poll asked people in the Louisville television market.

Beshears will be special guests for Webb fund-raiser

FRANKFORT -- Gov. Steve Beshear and first lady Jane Beshear will be special guests Friday at a Frankfort fund-raiser for state Rep. Robin Webb's Democratic campaign for a vacant state Senate seat in northeastern Kentucky. The Beshears are listed on an invitation sent out Wednesday by the Kentucky Democratic Party. The fundraiser will be from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday at Investors Heritage in downtown Frankfort. Webb, a Grayson attorney, is facing Republican Jack Ditty, a Greeunp County dermatologist, in an Aug. 25 special election for the 18th Senate District seat. It was left vacant last month when Republican incumbent Charlie Borders resigned to take a state job with the Public Service Commission.

Fancy Farm 2009: Plastic Spoons and Loons

It was great to be back at Fancy Farm on Saturday, the one-of-a-kind political circus where Kentucky politics tends to show its best and worst aspects every year.

This year's "episode" was largely a showcase of fresh blood from both parties. On the Republican side we had youngster Trey Grayson taking over the reigns from Jim Bunning (though still blatantly puppeted by ole Mitch). For the Democrats, the two youngsters were the squeaky clean MySpace Batman and Ken doll Jack Conway, and the eyebrow waxing hetero-hunting-coal-doctor Dan Mongiardo. Whatever the outcome of the 2010 Senate race, we're pretty much assured that at least 2 of these 3 will be among their party's leaders for the next generation.

Jack Conway raises $1.325 million in 2nd quarter. Wow.

Impressive. Very impressive.

"Kentuckians are ready for new leadership," says Jack Conway

Record Breaking: No other Democratic U.S. Senate candidate in Kentucky history has raised more money in a quarter.

(Louisville , KY) In an eye-popping effort, Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway, candidate for the United States Senate, will report raising more than $1.325 million for the June 30 Federal Election report in his bid to replace incumbent United States Senator Jim Bunning. Kim Geveden Amateur Hour, Part II (of many)

Wow. Kim Geveden has lost his mind. Check it out:
Conway kicked off his campaign at a rally in Louisville this afternoon, and appeared alongside some of the state party’s leading figures: Reps. Ben Chandler, John Yarmuth, state Auditor Crit Luallen, and state House Speaker Greg Stumbo. (Mongiardo notably received an endorsement from the state's Democratic governor, Steve Beshear.)

But in an interview with POLITICO, Mongiardo’s consultant Kim Geveden dismissed the endorsements as coming from a bunch of effete elitists.

“They’re all buddies, they’re good friends. Daniel doesn’t run in their social circle,” Geveden said. “Daniel is a sportsman, a hunter and a fisherman… Daniel doesn’t play golf, he’s not the part of that social crowd, he never has been, and he never will be.

Jack Conway's giant rally at 4:30 today

If you're in Louisville today, I highly suggest heading down to the Ali Center at 4:30. Soon to be Senator Jack Conway will formally announce his candidacy for US Senate, along with supporters Crit Luallen, John Yarmuth, and Ben Chandler. Oh, and some special guests that you WON'T want to miss. Trust me.

I'm in the Ville, so I might be liveblogging it, but if not, I'll have a report up on the festivities soon afterwards.

In the meantime, throw some turkee Jack's way.

Introducing the next Senator from KY, Jack Conway

(crossposted at DailyKos, go recommend it!)

I'm thrilled to report that the next Senator from the state of Kentucky has just announced his candidacy this morning. Our state's 11-year nightmare of Jim Bunning is about to end in November 2010, and here is the man that will end it.

Meet KY Attorney General Jack Conway.

As you can see in his announcement video on his site, Conway will have his official in-person rally to kick off his campaign Monday in Louisville. I can't go into all of the details now, but let's just say that Ben Chandler, Crit Luallen, John Yarmuth, and about every big KY Democrat past and present whose name isn't Steve Beshear will be there.

PPP poll: Bunning loses to ANY Democrat

Oh boy, I can't wait to jump into these crosstabs tomorrow:
Political Wire got an advance look at a new Public Policy Polling survey in Kentucky that shows Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY) with a 28% favorable rating as he attempts to run for a third term.

Bunning loses head-to-head match ups with all four Democrats considering a run against him: Kentucky Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo, Attorney General Jack Conway, state Auditor Crit Luallen and Rep. Ben Chandler.

Complete poll results will be released tomorrow. The end is nigh, Grandpa Simpson!

More thoughts on Beshear's "endorsement" of Mongiardo

Loyalty is certainly a trait that you have to have in politics. But like all things, you need some degree of moderation. You need to know where to draw the line between loyalty and irrational devotion to people who are bound to cause you or your policies harm. If there is one thing that Steve Beshear has shown us over the past year and a half, it is that he has no earthly idea where this line is drawn.

Last Friday, Steve Beshear once again stumbled clumsily over line, giving one of the most laughably pathetic and buried political endorsements that you will ever see in your life.
