Danny Briscoe: Faux Democratic consultant?

The state and national media loves going to Democratic consultant Danny Briscoe for quotes.

But as Bob at Blue Bluegrass points out, is this guy really a Democrat? Or only in the sense of the "Democratic consultants" that Fox News brings on to bash Democrats?
Why is Briscoe continuing to be referred to as a Democratic political consultant? While it is true that over 20 years ago he ran Wallace Wilkinson’s campaign, things change.

This is just one of many examples where Republican Danny Briscoe is positively fawning in his praise and adoration of Mitch McConnell.

And in 2008, when McConnell faced the re-election fight of his life, if Danny Briscoe were a Democratic political consultant, he’d be tying McConnell to the 8 years of poisonous Bush policies, and would be supportive of McConnell’s Democratic opponent, right?

Beanball's Retirement, and What It Means

The schadenfreude is running high after seeing Jim Bunning give Mitch McConnell a long-overdue California Howdy in his statement announcing that he won't seek a third term, but it's important to remember that this has real, potentially dire, consequences for Democrats in Kentucky.

Now that we essentially know who the GOP nominee will be, and that he won't be spending money in the primary (unless you really believe that Rand Paul is viable, in which case I have $100 Million in a Nigerian bank account for you), it's time for the bush-league stuff to stop.

Yes, I'm looking at you, Daniel Mongiardo.

State keeps paying Leonard Lawson’s companies

By John Cheves - jcheves@herald-leader.com Last September, a federal grand jury indicted road contractor Leonard Lawson for allegedly scheming to rig bids on contracts at the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet worth $130 million. Since that day, the cabinet has paid $68.3 million to seven road-building or asphalt companies in which Lawson or his family currently hold positions, according to data from the state treasurer and secretary of state's offices. Most of the companies share a headquarters on Atkinson Avenue in Lexington. Lawson's companies have dominated road building in Eastern Kentucky for decades as he acquired political clout through heavy campaign donations, friendships and private business deals with elected officials.

A Tale of Three Prayer Breakfasts

Three years ago, in 2006, Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher's "Prayer Breakfast" was an orgy of sectarian bigotry, a greasy "fuck you" to everyone who didn't share the speakers' narrow conservative Southern Baptism, an object lesson in why combining religion and government is history's worst idea.

This year, on the same day that invitations to Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear's "Prayer Breakfast" landed in state employees' email inboxes, The Economist brings us the latest lesson from President Obama, this one on how to do a "Prayer Breakfast" right, if you must do one at all.

I think the final proof that Barack Obama plans once and for all to elevate respect for Americans who don't practice a religion came at this morning's National Prayer Breakfast:
There is no doubt that the very nature of faith means that some of our beliefs will never be the same.

Once rivals, Chandler and Lunsford embrace after endorsement

DENVER – During the 2003 Democratic gubernatorial primary, candidates Ben Chandler (D-Versailles) and Bruce Lunsford (D-Louisville) waged a contentious fight against each other. Attacks were frequent and the television ads were vicious, with then-Attorney General Chandler’s campaign airing out allegations of business impropriety against Lunsford. Lunsford subsequently dropped out of the race before the primary and said he would vote against Chandler if he won the nomination.
