Better Democrats

Louisville has chosen Democrat Tom Riner to be their State Representative since 1982. Despite the fact that he's a complete nutjob who is responsible for these wonderful amendments that we all know and love:
One required that training materials include information that the General Assembly stressed a "dependence on Almighty God as being vital to the security of the Commonwealth." The other required a plaque to be placed at the entrance to the state's Emergency Operations Center in Frankfort that said, in part, "the safety and security of the Commonwealth cannot be achieved apart from reliance upon Almighty God."
And this genius:
"They make the argument .

Governor Farmer?

The biggest rumor in the Bluegrass got some more gasoline on the fire from the AP today:
FRANKFORT, Ky. -- University of Kentucky basketball icon Richie Farmer said Tuesday he is considering a run for governor on the Republican ticket.

The shooting guard on the legendary 1992 UK team dubbed "The Unforgettables" said Tuesday he has been "in discussions" about a possible run.

"I'm looking at options and seeing what people are saying," Farmer said. "We may look at doing a poll a little later on."If this happens, I think its fair to say that Steve Beshear is in big big big trouble.

On the bright side, this will at least be endlessly entertaining for us...

Crit Luallen gets national recognition for being a badass

Yes, we in Kentucky already know this, but as Jake reports, Crit is now getting national recognition for rooting out corruption and waste. She was just named Public Official of the Year by Governing Magazine:
Frankfort’s Fiscal Enforcer

THEY DON’T COME MORE AUTHENTICALLY Kentucky than Crit Luallen. She’s a descendant of two Kentucky governors and of a prominent whiskey distiller, as well as a familiar face in Frankfort’s halls of power. What Luallen clearly hasn’t inherited, however, is the loose ethical standard that has given the Bluegrass State more than its share of political scandals over the years.

As the state’s top fiscal cop, Luallen exposes corruption wherever she finds it.

KY Atheists defeat God. Our fate now lies in Your noodly appendages.

As Terri mentioned last week, the vile Godless heathens among us in KY have now opened our state up to attack from hurricanes, tornadoes, and Muslin Turrahists.

No longer will this plaque in Frankfort protect us:
"the safety and security of the Commonwealth cannot be achieved apart from reliance upon Almighty God."With the work of fine patriots like KY "Democrat" Tom Riner now destroyed by these irresponsible atheists, the protection of our white women and children now rests in the Noodly Appendages of one Supreme Being.

Personally, I think putting Him on the state flag is our only hope.

If Kathy Stein introduces this legislation, I vow to steal her away from Alan. Alan... you're on notice.

Mountaintop Removal Rocks!!! (in your living room...)

Literally.

FRANKFORT — State officials are investigating after a surface mine blast in Floyd County sent a boulder tumbling downhill, damaging one home and threatening others.

The Kentucky Department for Natural Resources says the incident occurred Friday near Martin on a site permitted to Frasure Creek Mining Co.

The boulder crashed into a home near state Highway 1210. No one was home at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported.

Residents were asked to leave two nearby homes because of concerns that more debris would fall down the hill.
Oh, I'm SURE the dirty libruls will pounce on this, and try to use it to say that MTR is actually bad for people in these communities, along with the yellow tap water and sludge ponds that will devour their community at any moment.

August 25th: Step #1 to beating David Williams

If there's one thing that's holding Kentucky back from making real legislative progress (and believe me, there are many), it is the fact that Republican David Williams runs the State Senate. As long as he remains the majority leader there, he will block any real reform or legislation that can move our state forward. We can talk about gaining seats in the House, or holding onto the Governor's mansion, or pushing our Democrats to the left, but as long as he remains in power and has the votes to block any and all legislation, nothing is going to change in Kentucky.

But... there is hope on the way.

Beshear plans state summit on flu preparation

FRANKFORT -- Kentucky will hold a summit Sept. 3 to prepare for expected new cases of the H1N1 swine flu and other related developments, including a potential vaccination campaign, Gov. Steve Beshear said Wednesday. “Given the H1N1 pandemic recognized earlier this year that is still active around the world, I felt it was important to bring together official responders, community and school representatives and others to learn about the latest developments and our state’s capacity to respond to an expected increase in H1N1 cases during the coming flu season,” Beshear said in a statement. Attendees will hear from public health experts about the current H1N1 situation and what to expect in the fall, including current response plans and related preparedness activities.
