Kentucky: George W. Bush

You Either Die A Hero, Or You LIve Long Enough To See Yourself Become The Villan

Looks like everybody has had their say already on an excellent little blurb from the Senate Guru on our Senate Primary, but I just had to step in.

Namely, I feel like I may have overreacted last week when I pulled down a post comparing Jack and his $1.3 million fundraising quarter to George W. Bush declaring mission accomplished.

Instead, I see that all of my worst fears about the Conway campaign have been confirmed-- they're not paying attention. They're not paying attention, and their loss, in the primary or the general, could set those of us with the stones to be real Democrats in Kentucky orignonal back a decade or more.

Mission Accomplished

All my rage aside, what we're seeing right now is the fall of one of Kentucky's last hopes at a unifying figure in Democratic politics. Organizing in the wreckage of the old KDP machine has always been a dicey proposition at best, filled with factions and cultural sensitivities and marriages of convenience to candidates that don't actually represent anything you stand for but that you desperately want to win anyway (Hello, Robin Webb). There's always a tenuous alliance, always a spurned consultant holding his network out of the fight like some third world gangster.

Jack Conway was supposed to be able to rise above that, not just to the Senate, but to the White House.

Perhaps The Honeymoon Is Over

At least one piece appearing last week on Politico.com suggests that some on the left are "souring" on Obama.  And here are the reasons for given for that conclusion:

Barely four months into his presidency, Obama is confronting growing dissatisfaction among members of his liberal base, who feel spurned by a series of his early decisions on issues ranging from guns to torture to immigration to gay rights.

The list got longer last week as Obama reversed his earlier decision to release photos of detainees abused in U.S. military custody and announced plans to try some terror suspects before military commissions – though on the campaign trail he railed against earlier versions of the tribunals.

A few, like MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, have even hurled the left’s ultimate epithet – suggesting that Obama’s turning into George W. Bush.

Critique: "verb (used with object): to review or analyze critically"

The Hairy-Liberal's Tom Eblen the other day posted a story on a local expert's take on the history of American foreign policy and Obama's current take on it.

Tom Eblen: Lexington author critiques Obama's foreign policy

American foreign policy during the past four months has looked much different than it did during the previous eight years.

Crazies on teh blogz!!1!

Because I'm a masochist and enjoy reading things that compel me to slam my head against a wall, I periodically enjoy trolling around the teabagger/libertarian/Right-wing crazy blogs just to read about the latest tyrannical actions of our Kenyan Socialist President, Barack Hussein Obama.

Here's a fun roundup!

  • From Politically Confused, we have warnings of "gun confiscations, detainment camps and...martial law" as the World Health Organization attempts to nip the Swine Flu in the bud. Politically confused, indeed... (Politically Confused)
  • In other news, wahh wahhh, you can HAVE Arlen Specter! We don't even want him! F'in Democrats. (Eternity Road)
  • O.M.G. Did you hear the news? The President (who, you must remember, is a Socialist, Totalitarian, Muslim) is "rushing another [terrorist] attack" so he can blame it on that Texas dunce George W.

100 days in, teabaggers lack mouths

Yes, they lack many vocal supporters. Get your mind out of the gutter, David Adams. The teabagging revolution = EPIC FAIL. Americans like Obama and trust him, in big numbers.
As his 100th day approaches, more than two in three Americans approve of the job Barack Obama is doing as president, a new CBS News/New York Times survey finds.

****

Mr. Obama's 68 percent approval rating at the 100 day mark is better than the ratings of his two immediate predecessors, George W. Bush (whose approval at this point was 56 percent) and Bill Clinton (whose approval was 49 percent). Going back to 1953, only two presidents - John F.

Obama strikes another blow against mountaintop removal

I wonder how long Dan Mongiardo is going to keep touting that Obama endorsement? I assume his good buddies at the International Coal Group won't like that he consorts with such commie tree huggers, eh?

WASHINGTON -- The Obama administration wants to reverse a last-minute Bush-era rule that allows mountaintop mining waste to be dumped near streams.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said Monday that the administration will ask the courts to abandon a rule that made it easier for coal mining companies to dump waste near streams. Prior to President George W. Bush's change, regulations since 1983 have barred mining companies from dumping waste within 100 feet of streams if the disposal would diminish water quality or quantity.

Math lesson: 24% don't "surround" 66%

Sorry Mr. Beck...
(CBS) As President Obama concludes his well-publicized trip to Europe, Americans are more positive about the respect accorded to a U.S. president than they have been in years, according to a new CBS News/New York Times poll.

Sixty-seven percent say world leaders respect Mr. Obama, while 18 percent say they do not respect the president. That's a sharp contrast to the response when this question was asked about Mr. Obama's predecessor, George W. Bush, in July 2006: Just 30 percent then said the president is respected by the leaders of other countries.

Mr. Obama's overall approval rating, meanwhile, has hit a new high of 66 percent, up from 64 percent last month. His disapproval rating stands at 24 percent. Nearly all Democrats and most independents approve of the way the president is handling his job, while only 31 percent of Republicans approve.

Wednesday Morning of Sweeping It Under the Rug

Still miss George W. Bush and his cadre of world-ruiners? “In the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, the Justice Department secretly gave the green light for the U.S. military to attack apartment buildings and office complexes inside the United States, deploy high-tech surveillance against U.S. citizens and potentially suspend First Amendment freedom-of-the-press rights in [...]
