Kentucky: Hal Rogers

LHL and CJ unload on spineless Ben Chandler

From his hometown Herald-Leader's editorial:
Chandler's disappointing vote

We're not sure what Chandler hoped to accomplish politically with his vote. He endorsed Obama and voted for a cap-and-trade allowance system to reduce the heat-trapping gases that are causing climate change. The energy vote, opposed by coal interests, was probably more politically risky than this one. And he's not going to get right with the tea baggers no matter what he does.

This is no time to let the perfect become the enemy of the good. We would have rather seen Chandler stand up for positive change rather than hunker down with Kentucky's House Republicans who reflexively vote against anything Obama wants, even Rep.

This just in: Hal Rogers is a crook who is for sale

No, I'm not shocked either, but here's a nice summary from the Hairy Liberal.

I wish Greg Stumbo would run against him instead of running in the primary against Beshear in 2011 (oops! did I let that one slip?)

Kentuckians are unhappy and miserable

Yeppers. The Courier-Journal brings home the news:
A new Gallup study finds that Kentucky is the unhappiest state in the union, except for West Virginia. In fact, Hal Rogers' Eastern Kentucky district is the most unhappy place in the country. Indeed, if you look at the Gallup map more closely, by congressional districts, you'll find that the least happy places are Eastern Kentucky, Southwestern West Virginia, Eastern Tennessee and Western Virginia. In other words, the coal fields of Appalachia.
Gee, I guess it's not a coincidence that the last 8 months have been the happiest in my life, eh?

But I suppose we should be somewhat suspicious of this, right? Obviously, life around mountaintop removal sites has to be great, what with the adventure tourism and shopping on the flatland development.

Round two of Kentucky's bailout vote in the House: 3 ayes, 3 noes

A second effort to pass the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 in the U.S. House found just one change among the Kentucky delegation from the roll call from the first effort earlier this week.

U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Louisville) was the only Kentuckian in the House to change his vote from the Monday roll call, when the bailout package failed before the House.
