Newt's Nook

Newt Gingrich: Lover of Pitbulls and Titties on da grillz.
A North Texas shelter for pit bulls has opened this week, thanks to a Dallas topless club owner's contribution after Newt Gingrich's conservative group snubbed her donation.

The former U.S. House speaker's political organization was set to give Dawn Rizos an "Entrepreneur of the Year" award last month. But the group reneged, saying it had mistaken her business for another. Rizos, who owns the Dallas topless club The Lodge, was refunded the $5,000 fee required to receive the award.

Disappointed, Rizos says she decided to "make something positive out of his bad manners."

She redirected the money to Animal Guardians of America's sanctuary for rescued dogs in Celina, about 35 miles north of Dallas.

Gingrich didn't attend the opening of "Newt's Nook — A Home for Pit Bulls."

LHL and CJ unload on spineless Ben Chandler

From his hometown Herald-Leader's editorial:
Chandler's disappointing vote

We're not sure what Chandler hoped to accomplish politically with his vote. He endorsed Obama and voted for a cap-and-trade allowance system to reduce the heat-trapping gases that are causing climate change. The energy vote, opposed by coal interests, was probably more politically risky than this one. And he's not going to get right with the tea baggers no matter what he does.

This is no time to let the perfect become the enemy of the good. We would have rather seen Chandler stand up for positive change rather than hunker down with Kentucky's House Republicans who reflexively vote against anything Obama wants, even Rep.

Wife-beating scumbag Bill Caylor resigning from KY Coal Association

Tears...
The head of a Kentucky coal lobbying organization is planning to resign at the end of the year.

David Moss, director of governmental affairs for the Kentucky Coal Association, says a successor has not yet been named to replace Bill Caylor, the group's current president. Caylor's resignation is effective Dec. 31.

Caylor declined to comment.
Yes, I guess having a wife-beater president might give a bad name to your organization that lies about global warming and advocates for ruining the water supply for half of the state. You just couldn't have that, could you?

Maybe the Mongiardo for Senate campaign will snatch him up.

Oh, and speaking of scumbags, check out

August 25th: Step #1 to beating David Williams

If there's one thing that's holding Kentucky back from making real legislative progress (and believe me, there are many), it is the fact that Republican David Williams runs the State Senate. As long as he remains the majority leader there, he will block any real reform or legislation that can move our state forward. We can talk about gaining seats in the House, or holding onto the Governor's mansion, or pushing our Democrats to the left, but as long as he remains in power and has the votes to block any and all legislation, nothing is going to change in Kentucky.

But... there is hope on the way.

NEWS FEED: Osi Speaks!

Louisville Courier Journal Weighs In On "Cash For Clunkers", Urges More Funding. Where Do You Stand On The Issue?

Fund more rebates

The U.S. Senate should not take its four-week recess without approving more money for the wildly popular “cash for clunkers” auto rebate program. The House approved additional...

Jim Bunning strikes out

I sad, sad day for bloggers everywhere. Looks like Kentucky's Republican 3-ring circus will now be a 2-ring circus:

Here's Jimbo's statement (good news, he brought the crazee!). Also, how many veiled swipes at Mr. McConnell can you count?:

“I have the same conservative principles in 2009 as I had when I was first elected to Congress in 1986. Over the past twenty-two years I have always done what I thought was right for Kentucky even if that meant taking positions that were not popular with the media or even leaders of my own party. Speaking out against bailouts and wasteful spending supported by the Republican leadership in the Senate and a Republican President last year angered many of my colleagues in my own party, but I didn’t run for public office for fame or public acclaim.

Jack Conway raises $1.325 million in 2nd quarter. Wow.

Impressive. Very impressive.

Record Breaking: No other Democratic U.S. Senate candidate in Kentucky history has raised more money in a quarter.

Congressman Awesome not a fan of pedophiles

Kittens in woodchippers? Yes.

Pedophiles worshiped on the House floor? Not so much.

John Yarmuth is not a politician. That's a rare breed for Washington, and part of his Secret of Awesomeness.

More Republican victim whining

Funny, the Republican Party loses two election cycles, and then they turn into WATB's who are so so so horribly repressed. Their horrible oppression at the hands of Obama and the Librul Meedya has now taken their guns and 1st amendment rights, all confiscated by the iron handed tyranny of American women of color. Why, they're just like the Iranians!

Rep. John Culberson (R-TX)

Good to see Iranian people move mountains w social media, shining sunlight on their repressive govt - Texans support their bid for freedom

Oppressed minorities include House Repubs: We are using social media to expose repression such as last night's D clampdown shutting off amends.

Rep. Pete Hoekstra
Iranian twitter activity similar to what we did in House last year when Republicans were shut down in the House.FIGHT THE POWER, rich white men!

Wait a second, don't the Dems have a majority?

I have to say it, the Democrats have been letting me down these past week. First there was the news that the EPA is now set to approve 42 out of the 48 mountaintop removal permits that have recently been under the strict scrutiny of the agency. Initially Lisa Jackson, the new EPA administrator, had sent a strong signal back in March by halting all pending permits and holding nearly 200 others. Now, apparently, the review is over and the Obama administration is set to approve more MTR permits than the Bush administration did. How the hell did this happen so quickly? I haven't seen this much waffling since Kerry ran.
