Conway campaign smacks Mongiardo upside the head

Check out the juicy juice from their new press release.

On Mongiardo's last place in fundraising and the polls (to Conway, Grayson, and Paul):
“It is hard to spin being dead last. They can spin, blame and point fingers, but the fact remains that Dan Mongiardo is last in money and last in polls,” added Riddle. "One must wonder when the Mongiardo campaign gets dizzy from all their spinning."
Ouch.
Mongiardo has spent weeks hiding from the press because he refuses to answer questions regarding what he said about the Governor. It is time for Mongiardo to “man up” as the Herald Leader editorialized.
Yep.
80% of Jack Conway’s fundraising comes from Kentuckians.

The Kim Geveden Amateur Hour, Part IV

So, what do you do when your candidate is caught on tape calling your boss, Gov. Beshear, a "whore", "son of a bitch" and the "worst Governor in KY history"?

Granted, this isn't an easy situation. But the strategy of the Dan Mongiardo camp has been a comedy of errors so far. The whole "I won't comment on a doctored tape" thing has only increased the curiosity of the KY and national press, and they aren't going to stop asking that question until he explains why he (obviously) said them.

But this new tactic from yesterday? OH MY. Check it out:

Yes, instead of finally putting this whole thing to rest by apologizing for his comments, and saying that he and the Governor have patched up their differences.

LHL not letting "Fuck it All" Gate die

Missed this from yesterday, but the Herald-Leader isn't letting Dan Mongiardo's pathetic "political shenanigans" excuse go.
It's time for Senate candidate Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo to man up.

We're talking about the recordings of him that keep popping up on the Internet. Yes, they were surreptitiously taped, are obviously spliced and have been distributed anonymously. As such, they are both high-tech dirty trick and political comedy in the old Kentucky tradition.

Yet some of Mongiardo's statements, which he has not denied making, are provocative no matter the context.

What did he mean when he said that being Gov. Steve Beshear's lieutenant governor is like "being married to a whore"? Or that "the only difference between (former Gov.

LHL: Mongiardo "dangerously sloppy"

They give him a break on his highly dishonest BS explanation of Fuck-It-All-Gate, but not the fact that his campaign is "selling" itself:
The Courier-Journal reported Thursday that campaign staffers have sent out e-mails soliciting names for possible gubernatorial appointment to state boards. That, too, is embarrassing, and not just because of the presumption that Mongiardo's people would have any influence over appointments after his dissing of the governor went public.

Worse, it's embarrassingly sloppy — as sloppy as the host of a fund-raiser sending out invitations offering folks special access to Mongiardo and Beshear for a $1,000 contribution. In each instance, the sloppiness casts an overt "pay to play" aura over the Mongiardo campaign.

Kim Geveden spins Mongiardo's awful Rasmussen numbers

Enjoy:
"The Rasmussen poll varies widely from two recent independent polls that show Daniel Mongiardo as the strongest Democrat against Republicans Trey Grayson or Rand Paul. No matter how you slice it, the General Election will be very competitive. The fundamental question for Democratic voters is do they want a Kentucky Democrat like Daniel Mongairdo who reflects their values and who will stand up and fight for Kentucky's working families or a silver spoon Democrat who represents out-of-state interests who neither share Kentucky's values or our priorities? We are confident which one Kentucky voters will choose."

The poll varies from the previous polls because those were before your campaign imploded with the "Fuck it all" video, Kim.

Rasmussen Poll: very bad news for Dan Mongiardo

Not only is Trey Grayson kicking his ass, but so is Rand Paul?
Grayson- 44%Mongiardo- 37%
Paul- 43%Mongiardo- 38%
Prettttty lame, Milhouse.
Meanwhile, Jack Conway fares much better:
Grayson- 40%Conway- 40%
Paul- 38%Conway- 42%
We all anxiously await Kim Geveden's spin on this one...

Oh, poor Dan Mongiardo

But hey, fuck it all, right?

Also... don't know if anyone else has noticed, but used to be when people posted nasty mean lies about Dan Mongiardo, there were a whole flock of DanDefenders who'd swoop into the comments and defend their manly-leader's manliness and honor. But now...

Chirp chirp chirp.

Oh! And also, how 'bout that trip to Chicago? How much money did Dan raise at his top secret fundraiser? Does America really need more leaders who, when crisis calls, whisk themselves off to undisclosed locations? Jake has more:

His campaign’s excuse for missing it? A fundraiser in Chicago. Mongiardo’s campaign manager, Kim Geveden, provided WHAS11’s Joe Arnold with a copy of a parking receipt stamped with the time 6:47 P.

Some Thoughts On Profanity-Gate

I didn't go to Fancy Farm; unfortunately, this anonablogger had work falling over the holiday of mutton and heckling, so I was stuck hitting up the twitter machine. You know, the only place you could get live coverage (thanks, KET! No check for you this year!).

Given that, I was absolutely certain that Allison Mongiardo's table dance at the tie auction was going to be the story of the weekend. I was also sure that, like most Fancy Farms, this one would be out of the news cycle in 3 hours or less.

Boy, was I wrong.

Team Jack Conway, take a bow.

Fancy Farm 2009: Plastic Spoons and Loons

It was great to be back at Fancy Farm on Saturday, the one-of-a-kind political circus where Kentucky politics tends to show its best and worst aspects every year.

This year's "episode" was largely a showcase of fresh blood from both parties. On the Republican side we had youngster Trey Grayson taking over the reigns from Jim Bunning (though still blatantly puppeted by ole Mitch). For the Democrats, the two youngsters were the squeaky clean MySpace Batman and Ken doll Jack Conway, and the eyebrow waxing hetero-hunting-coal-doctor Dan Mongiardo. Whatever the outcome of the 2010 Senate race, we're pretty much assured that at least 2 of these 3 will be among their party's leaders for the next generation.
