Kentucky: Louisville

Polls, polls, polls...

Some crosstab madness from the SUSA polling goodness yesterday:

First, on the Republican primary side

Rand Paul- 35
Trey Grayson- 32
Other/Undecided- 33

Gender-wise, Paul leads 40-32 among Male Liberty Patriots, Grayson leads 33-29 among females.

Among young voters, Paul had a crazy-high advantage in the last SUSA poll, but now trails 43-40. Odd.

Among conservatives (69% of respondents), Paul leads 39-31, but is losing huge among moderates. This falls more in line with what I think will happen (the last SUSA was the opposite, if I recall correctly), as Rand Paul is much much much more conservative (both economically and socially) than Trey Grayson.

Regionally, Grayson takes Western KY and Louisville, while Paul takes Eastern, Central and Northern KY.

Mongiardo is campaigning on your dime

Dan Mongiardo's campaign royally fucked up today (see here, here and here), and the Conway campaign is now pouncing. Here's the video and press release... enjoy:

Daniel Mongiardo Caught Tricking Taxpayers on Halloween!

"I know it's Halloween Eve, but this is SCARY! What does Mongiardo have to hide?" says Conway Campaign.

(Louisville - KY) Today, after Lt. Gov. Dan Mongiardo sent out an official media advisory (see attached PDF) using state email and letterhead from the Office of the Lt. Governor, he barred Conway Campaign staffers from attending the events and kicked them out of the meetings.

The events were touted as places where Dan Mongiardo would discuss health care reform and proposed legislation.

Yarmy invites John Boehner to Louisville

Earlier today, Republican Minority Leader John "Orange Skin is the new Sexy" Boehner had the nerve to say that he was:
“still trying to find the first American to talk to who’s in favor of the public option, other than a Member of Congress or the Administration.”
You know, cause it's really hard to actually mingle with one of 70% of the American public that supports it.

Well, John "Congressman Awesome" Yarmuth had this direct message for Mr. Orange:
“There are plenty of average Americans in Louisville who support the public insurance option, and I’d be happy to personally pay for one of them to fly to Washington to tell John Boehner why, if he will agree to meet with them in public,” said Congressman Yarmuth.

Fuck It All!: Mongiardo Speaks

WKYT reporting:

Today at a ribbon cutting event in Louisville, Mongiardo was asked about the controversial recordings.

Yesterday Governor Beshear repeated his support of the Lieutenant Governor.

He called the recordings an unfortunate part of politics, and said it's easy to edit someone's words, and make them look bad.

Halloween comes early for Humana and Mitch

Americans United for Change is airing this love letter in Louisville to the scaremongers at Humana, and their number one defender of dishonesty, Mitch McConnell:

Dan Mongiardo sends southern belles reeling onto their fainting couches all across the Bluegrass

US Senate candidate Dan Mongiardo sent out an email today touting the "support" of Governor Steve Beshear for his candidacy:
The summer may be over, but for us at the campaign it couldn't have ended better. Last week Gov. Steve Beshear joined Daniel for an event in Northern Kentucky where he voiced his strong support of Daniel. Beshear said:

"I'm looking forward to having Daniel Mongiardo as our next United States Senator. He has proven himself time and time again to be a person who not only understands people, but relates to people and is one of the people...He's demonstrated leadership - the kind of leadership we need in Washington.

John Yarmuth: Does he represent the people, or an insurance company?

A few weeks ago, as PageOne reported, Congressman John Yarmuth fired off a letter to Humana, the Louisville-based profit-driven health care corporation, expressing his profound regret over the tenor of the health care debate in Washington and congratulating Humana's CEO on his company's almost Christ-like record of good behavior.

Regrettably, with passions inflamed throughout the country, Speaker Pelosi recently made inflammatory statements that assailed the character of health insurers across the board. I unequivocally reject these misguided comments. Not only do such overtures distract from a constructive debate, they are simply untrue. That certain insurers have engaged in unscrupulous practices cannot be denied, but to paint an entire industry with a single stroke is unfair.

Be afraid, Louisville

September 10, 2009 - 07:34 am

Dear Louisville tech-savy TV watchers

Is it true that there is currently an ad for Kosair charities running in Louisville with John Yarmuth and Mitch McConnell in which Mitch refers to kids that "fall through the cracks of the healthcare system"?
This coming from the same Mitch McConnell who said just last week that "nothing makes him more angry" than when someone criticizes our healthcare system and says its not the best in the world?
The same Mitch McConnell whose office tried to smear Graeme Frost's family to national media?
If anyone in Louisville can yank this ad and put it on the YouTube..... that would be rather awesome, no?

Damnit...

Of course.

No sooner do I finish heaping praise on Jack Conway for finally doing something aggressive and populist-y than he goes and proves one of my more significant fears 100% correct. Jake and Rick Redding have all the info you need to know on the Cordish opinion, but if you read them both, you see the hell of this opinion: it's playing to both crowds. Like the Mayor, want to protect him (perhaps because he was an early endorser for your Senate campaign)? Emphasize that nothing illegal happened. Upset over what was pretty clearly government waste and giveaway at a time that the city has nothing to spare? Emphasize that it was morally wrong.
