Mongiardo is campaigning on your dime

Dan Mongiardo's campaign royally fucked up today (see here, here and here), and the Conway campaign is now pouncing. Here's the video and press release... enjoy:

Daniel Mongiardo Caught Tricking Taxpayers on Halloween!

"I know it's Halloween Eve, but this is SCARY! What does Mongiardo have to hide?" says Conway Campaign.

(Louisville - KY) Today, after Lt. Gov. Dan Mongiardo sent out an official media advisory (see attached PDF) using state email and letterhead from the Office of the Lt. Governor, he barred Conway Campaign staffers from attending the events and kicked them out of the meetings.

The events were touted as places where Dan Mongiardo would discuss health care reform and proposed legislation.

Conway campaign smacks Mongiardo upside the head

Check out the juicy juice from their new press release.

On Mongiardo's last place in fundraising and the polls (to Conway, Grayson, and Paul):
“It is hard to spin being dead last. They can spin, blame and point fingers, but the fact remains that Dan Mongiardo is last in money and last in polls,” added Riddle. "One must wonder when the Mongiardo campaign gets dizzy from all their spinning."
Ouch.
Mongiardo has spent weeks hiding from the press because he refuses to answer questions regarding what he said about the Governor. It is time for Mongiardo to “man up” as the Herald Leader editorialized.
Yep.
80% of Jack Conway’s fundraising comes from Kentuckians.

Conway unloads on Mongiardo campaign

Have you been waiting on some signs of life from the Jack Conway campaign? Yea, me too.

Well, wait no longer. Check out this release from the Conway campaign.

Mongiardo's Hypocrisy

Official Host of Event Promises Access and To Have Special Needs Discussed with Governor and Lt. Governor for $1,000

(Louisville – KY) - Dan Mongiardo’s campaign has reached a new height of hypocrisy and raised potential legal and ethics questions with an email sent by the official host of an upcoming Mongiardo fundraiser. In an email to potential contributors, the host said contributors should give $1,000 if they want “access or have special needs that need to be discussed with the Governor and Lt.

Mission Accomplished

All my rage aside, what we're seeing right now is the fall of one of Kentucky's last hopes at a unifying figure in Democratic politics. Organizing in the wreckage of the old KDP machine has always been a dicey proposition at best, filled with factions and cultural sensitivities and marriages of convenience to candidates that don't actually represent anything you stand for but that you desperately want to win anyway (Hello, Robin Webb). There's always a tenuous alliance, always a spurned consultant holding his network out of the fight like some third world gangster.

Jack Conway was supposed to be able to rise above that, not just to the Senate, but to the White House.

Fancy Farm 2009: Plastic Spoons and Loons

It was great to be back at Fancy Farm on Saturday, the one-of-a-kind political circus where Kentucky politics tends to show its best and worst aspects every year.

This year's "episode" was largely a showcase of fresh blood from both parties. On the Republican side we had youngster Trey Grayson taking over the reigns from Jim Bunning (though still blatantly puppeted by ole Mitch). For the Democrats, the two youngsters were the squeaky clean MySpace Batman and Ken doll Jack Conway, and the eyebrow waxing hetero-hunting-coal-doctor Dan Mongiardo. Whatever the outcome of the 2010 Senate race, we're pretty much assured that at least 2 of these 3 will be among their party's leaders for the next generation.

Mark Riddle unloads on Kim Geveden

Pitting these two guys in an intellectual battle royal is like pitting Jim Gooch against Skinny Jake in a hot dog eating contest. Especially on a day like today.

Advantage: Riddle...
“Kim Geveden must have received his formal training as an accountant for Enron. Their campaign’s attempt to save face with their ridiculous press release simply does not stand up to scrutiny.” The simple facts are as follows:

  • Jack Conway just out-raised Dan Mongiardo by over $1 million in a single quarter.
  • In their only quarter of joint fundraising, Conway out-raised Mongiardo outside of Jefferson County by approximately 2-1.
  • The Mongiardo fundraising is on a significant downward trend and they have already spent over 1/3 of their resources.

It's official: Mongiardo raises only $300k

Beyond pathetic showing.

FRANKFORT — Lt. Governor Daniel Mongiardo announced Wednesday that he has raised $302,993 in the past several months for his bid for the U.S. Senate, nearly a $1 million less than his main Democratic rival.

To date, Mongiardo has raised more than $732,546 and has $485,866 of cash-on-hand, according to a release from the Mongiardo campaign.

But the anemic $300k figure isn't the real story here. The cash-on-hand is the real eye opener to the absolutely failure of Mongiardo so far.

After the 1st quarter, Mongiardo had $388,500 cash-on-hand. A month later, he has only $485,866. So after 3 months of embarrassment, Lt.

Jack Conway raises $1.325 million in 2nd quarter. Wow.

Impressive. Very impressive.
Conway Raises More Than $1.325 Million for Senate Campaign

"Kentuckians are ready for new leadership," says Jack Conway

Record Breaking: No other Democratic U.S. Senate candidate in Kentucky history has raised more money in a quarter.

(Louisville , KY) In an eye-popping effort, Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway, candidate for the United States Senate, will report raising more than $1.325 million for the June 30 Federal Election report in his bid to replace incumbent United States Senator Jim Bunning. This is Conway's first quarter of fundraising and represents about 60 days of active fundraising. He held his first large fundraiser on May 30.

Beshear jumps the shark, endorses Lt. Dan (UPDATE)

Jake Payne breaks it:
“Our country and our Commonwealth face unprecedented economic challenges. Now, more than ever, we need strong representatives in Washington D.C. to give voice to Kentucky priorities and values. I believe that my Lieutenant Governor, Daniel Mongiardo, can be that voice and I endorse his candidacy for the United States Senate. As a doctor, state senator and, now, as Lieutenant Governor, Daniel has been a leader in the push for e-health technology, a priority he shares with President Barack Obama. Daniel has worked tirelessly to promote Kentucky through Adventure Tourism, a potential engine of economic growth worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

If Gay Marriage Decides Our Senate Primary....

I recently wrote an article on this site defending Daniel Mongiardo as a Senate Primary candidate despite the fact that he does not support Gay Marriage. Now myself, I don't believe in persecution of any minority. When Gay Marriage was on the ballot in Kentucky I was one of the paltry minority that voted IN FAVOR of it. However, I do not believe that just because a candidate is opposed to it, that means they are lining up to lynch gays at every possible opportunity.
I have not declared Daniel Mongiardo as my choice in the Kentucky Senate Primary for 2010.
