Recollections of a Fundraiser of Yore and Thoughts on Son-of-a-Bitchgate

Dan Mongiardo’s fake puritanical outrage over Attorney General Jack Conway’s recent, shocking use of profanity at the Fancy Farm picnic brought back memories for me of a Democratic State Senate Caucus fundraiser that I and several other UK College Democrats attended some years ago. As you will remember, this was two offices ago for Dan Mongiardo, back when he was still a lowly state senator who had recently lost the last race for US Senate against Jim Bunning, and as such he was expected to allow the rest of the caucus and the attendees at the fundraiser to bask in the glow of his political fame.

Patton in 2010? Make it 1000-to-1

Former Gov. Paul Patton evidently did not agree with a recent Louisville Courier-Journal column that included him among a list of potential Democratic candidates for the 2010 U.S. Senate race.

Political writer Joe Gerth gave 50-to-1 odds for Patton's entry into the race, but Patton told Polwatchers on Wednesday it wasn't even that close.

"Better make that 1,000-1," Patton reportedly said.

In Louisville, Dems make final push for Boswell and Lunsford

LOUISVILLE - With just two days to go before the general election, a slate of high-profile Kentucky Democrats touted the candidates they hope can increase their federal delegation at an afternoon rally headlined by U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.).

Democratic Senate candidate Bruce Lunsford's (D-Louisville) bid against U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Louisville) was that most urgently pressed by the speakers on stage. While a poll released today showed the Republican incumbent with a growing lead, some said the contest was still winnable for Democrats.

In an interview with PolitickerKY.com conducted last Friday, Edelen says he is bringing the lessons of his experience in the private sector with him into Beshear's office, noting he wants the administration to become more "customer service oriented" in its dealings.
