Candidate Greg Fischer (D-Louisville) will stay involved in Kentucky politics through the general election after all, following his announcement yesterday that he will serve as volunteer finance chair for state Senator David Boswell's (D-Owensboro) bid for the open 2nd Congressional District seat.

Guthrie camp reiterates doubts over SurveyUSA poll

After Guthrie's early warning, poll shows Boswell leading in KY-2

The first indication of the climate in Kentucky's 2nd Congressional District may offer a boost to Democrats holding out hope of picking up the seat left open by the retirement of U.S. Rep Ron Lewis (R-Cecilia).

A new poll by the New Jersey-based firm SurveyUSA gives state Senator David Boswell (D-Sorgho) a 47 to 44 percent advantage over his colleague, state Senator Brett Guthrie (R-Bowling Green).

KY-2: Boswell looks forward to November

"My brain is a little fuzzy after running a 6 month campaign in thirty days," said state Senator David Boswell (D-Sorgho) this evening after beating Daviess County Judge/Executive Reid Haire (D-Owensboro) in the 2nd District Democratic primary.

Boswell did not begin serious fundraising for his bid against Haire until the end of Kentucky's legislative session in late March, saying he was adhering to strict ethics legislation he was proposing.

KY-2: Boswell beats Haire

State Senator David Boswell (D-Sorgho) has taken the 2nd District Democratic nomination this evening over opponent Reid Haire (D-Owensboro).

With 100% of precints reporting, Boswell took 58.6 percent of the vote to Haire's 41.4 percent.

Boswell will now move forward to face state Senator David Guthrie (R-Bowling Green) in the November general election.

Bruce Lunsford - 51%

Greg Fischer - 34%

David L. Williams - 5%

Michael Cassaro - 3%

James Rice - 3%

US SENATE - Republicans, 97% of precints reporting:

Mitch McConnell - 86%

Daniel Essek - 14%

KY-2 Democrats, with 97% of precints reporting:

David Boswell - 59%

Reid Haire - 41%

Boswell touts endorsements from three former governors, claims polling lead

The Boswell camp also says recent internal polling shows their candidate with a "substantive" double-digit lead over primary opponent and Daviess County Judge/Executive Reid Haire.
